Homemade Hair Treatment Recipes for Tired Moms (and Others)
During winter, in times of stress and post pregnancy, your hair can become really booring. Use a homemade hair treatment to add some nutrition and shine!
Below you'll find some recipes and instructions how to make various hair mask and conditioners to pamper your hair (and yourself). And if you are a new mom (or well - a mom), try to have someone else take care of your baby while you spend some time of your own in the bathroom!
(If that's not possible, put your baby in a baby bath tub (if he is steady enough to sit) or in a baby bouncer and get going! Just don't ever leave your baby alone in the tub.)
It may seem a bit strange to apply mayonnaise to your hair all the way to the hair tips, but it is a really good conditioner!
Ingredients:
1/2 ripe avocado
1 small jar of real mayonnaise
Do this:
Mash the avocado and mix with the mayonnaise. Apply to your clean hair and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. You'll get the best effect if you use a shower cap, plastic wrap or warm towel to add some body heat to the process. Rinse off.
Avocado and coconut milk
If you don't like the idea of using mayonnaise, try mixing the avocado with coconut milk.
Ingredients:
1 avocado
Coconut milk
Do this:
Mash the avocado and mix with enough coconut milk to make the conditioner smooth and the right consistency for a hair treatment. Tip: Add the milk slowly so that the conditioner does not become too loose.)Apply it to your hair and leave for some 20 minutes. Rinse off. (Again, it is good to somehow seal the body heat in by using a shower cap or towel for example.)
Avocado and egg yolk
Finally, avocado and egg yolk is also a great conditioner!
Ingredients:
1 avocado
1 egg yolk
Do this:
Mash the avocado and mix the egg yolk. Apply it to your hair and leave for some 20 minutes. Rinse off.
Moisture is what frizzy hair really needs! In addition to the Dry hair treatments above, try the following recipes.
Honey and almond
To make your usual conditioner more effective, add some honey and almond to it.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of your usual conditioner
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon almond oil
Do this:
Mix the ingredients until blended. Dampen your hair using for example a water mister (or the shower). Your hair should be damp, not wet. Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it in for 20 minutes. Rinse and then shampoo your hair as usual.
Rosemary Rinse
If your hair is oily, try this fresh rosemary rinse!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup dried rosemary
1 1/2 cup of water
Do this:
Simmer the rosemary in the water for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and through away the rosemary. Cool and use the liquid and the final rinse after shampooing.
