My Baby Fell Off The Bed – Please Help!

My baby fell off the bed on her head today while I was in the restroom. Do I have to worry about anything? Like are there any particular warning signs that I should be looking for?

I am really worried that my baby is injured somehow.

Please advice.

Warning Signs And What To Do When A Baby Falls and Hits the Head

Babies are very prone to falling, especially when they are very mobile on the bed. A lot of times, they end up falling from the bed when we turn our attention to other things. But it is not always a cause for worry for parents when their babies hit their heads while falling.

Most of the time, they are just fine. They may cry since they get startled by the fall, or someone suddenly shouts when they fall. Sometimes, they don’t feel anything at all and just crawl or roll over. But sometimes, they end up with, for example, a concussion, a skull fracture, brain damage, or blood vessels that are torn.

First, let us identify red flags that we should look out for as parents when this happens:

  1. A bump, dent, or any malformation found on the head after the fall
  2. A wound that is bleeding non-stop
  3. Vomiting more than once after the fall (3 episodes of vomiting in 1 hour)
  4. Unusually drowsy or inactivity
  5. Difficult to awaken
  6. Loss of consciousness right after the fall
  7. Bleeding from ears or nose
  8. Seizures
  9. Irregular breathing
  10. Irritable than usual and incessant crying

When one of these warning signs is present or manifested within 12-24 hours after the fall, call the ambulance and your doctor right away.

These symptoms indicate a neurological disorder possibly caused by a neck injury, a skull fracture, or a brain injury. Management of these symptoms is of utmost importance.

How to Act After Your Baby Fell

Depending on the situation and the severity of the fall, your baby may be more or less severely injured. If there is a risk of severe injury, you should not move your child more than necessary to avoid further injury, but rather call the emergency services immediately.

If your baby is vomiting, turn them on their side carefully.

Bleeding should be stopped or at least managed until help arrives.

If your baby doesn’t seem to be severely injured, the best you can do is to comfort your baby. In such a case, you can examine them after a while when they are calmer.

During the next 24 hours, you’ll have to watch for warning signs (above) of concussion and other injuries.

Call your healthcare provider and ask for advice on, for example, letting your baby sleep or waking them up in intervals for the next 24 hours. Many babies will be a bit more sleepy than usual after a fall.

Prevention to Avoid Future Falls

Next, let’s talk about prevention. The one thing that comes to mind when we have babies in the house is how to baby proof it. This is, of course, not only needed to prevent falls but to prevent all kinds of serious accidents such as electrocution, fractures, or any other injuries.

For prevention of falls, many things can help:

  1. Putting of bed rails on all sides of the bed
  2. Installing gates on stairs and other rooms that are higher or elevated than the next room
  3. Keeping your furniture, especially those where you put your babies on like the bed and couch, low
  4. It is also safe to change your baby’s diaper on the floor if he moves around much
  5. Look for trip hazards on the floor (like wires or rugs) and remove them
  6. If you have mats on the floor or your baby’s pathway, better get anti-skid mats or rugs
  7. Always make sure that your floor is not wet to avoid your walking babies from slipping
  8. Don’t leave your baby to sleep or play alone on an elevated area, such as your bed or sofa

These are just some of the preventive measures you can practice in your homes. But the best is still to always keep your eyes on your babies because accidents always happen.

To conclude

Accidents happen. It is scary and heartbreaking, and the best we can do is to work with prevention as much as we can. Nevertheless, many babies fall at some point. While babies can usually have quite hard hits on their heads and nothing happens, it is NOT worth taking any chances with head injuries. Call the doctor or visit the ER if at all in doubt.

I really hope your baby is fine.

My baby girl has fallen three times, the first time was ridiculous because I was standing right next her she seemed she would’nt go anywhere she was on her back facing toward me and I was standing beside her fixing her bow, her butt was close to the edge but not anywhere where I thought she could fall,My mattress cover is huge for our bed and I guess when she was kicking away it slide her down ,she fell faster than I could catch her I totally lost it, I could’nt believe she fell with me right next to her.I took her straight to the E.R Thankfully she was fine .
The second time at five months is when we moved to my MIL we have a small room It’s hard to keep her in her crib bc she wants to see what’s going on,so anyway I layed her on her back On my bed close to the middle and stepped away for a min to plug in my phone, it’s literally a couple steps away where I can still see her,I look away for second and she had somehow rolled off,I panicked I was so mad at myself and took her to the E.R AGAIN,she was okay, this time I hate even saying this time!
I sat her on her bottom on the bed she sits up now at 6m her dresser is three steps away from the bed. I went to grab her dress for the day and that’s all it took for her to try and follow me right of the bed,she is ok Dr. said she looks great ,but I can’t forgive myself for underestimating her, it’s sadder though because since she was born she has not left my site, Were also EBF and very close and I just feel awful because I’m all she knows.she ‘s very strong and ready to explore.

I have vowed to keep her off the bed entirely unless I’m sitting with her other than that she has been put in her crib now when I walk a few steps away,PERIOD!

PLEASE parents don’t underestimate these little ones they adapt and learn so quickly, and so should we!always put them in their bed they’ll get over it and it’s better to be safe than sorry ,I comepletly hate it took three times to learn, and I am very blessed that she is okay.

My hubby and I were vacuuming our house when I sat my baby on his swing. I turned to move the couch when I heard my baby cried turned to him and saw him laying on his back on the hard floor. I ran to pick him up and he stopped crying. He started smiling and cooing being him self. I was devastated and couldn’t stop crying. My hubby was taking care of our baby while trying to calm me down. I just feel like a horrible mother! I called th nurse and she said to watch for any vomiting, pupils, and check if he has a hard time waking when I try to wake him. I have an app with his ped. I pray to GOD that my baby is ok.

wooo ! while having dinner our gandaughter sitting on the kitchen table chair.
    Suddenly turns.

Makes an attempt to grabb her sister who is sitting next to her, baby loses grip, falls, hits her head “KA PLoNK” loud bump, baby cries.

We apply ice to back of her head for about a minute. All worried we take her to ER.

WITHIN 15M MIN SHE IS EXAMINED BY DOC ALL SEEMS FINE . EYES OK , NO SIGN ODF BLEEDING. Baby is EXTREAMLY ACTIVE, AND DRANK HER MILK / JUICE NO VOMITING…

Question: What part of the childs head is more voularable to injurie?

A doctor told me once a child head is like
solid rock protecting the brain. If it blunt force yes damage but if it their own weight, not expected , but can happen !

My 8months old baby fell off the bed. She was asleep on my bed n I quickly went to get water to drink n upon my return,I heard a loud scream n as I ran n opened the door,I met my angel on the floor crying.I felt very bad n started weeping cos she cried for about 2mins.

Never leave ur baby unattended. Put them in the cot if u must be out of sight even if it’s for a second.

It was on in the morning, after got up 3 times to feed him. When i got up second times to feed him it seems someone try to show or to tell me in my eyes i saw my baby was felling from our bed but i just not really pay attention and get back to sleep as normal. And around between 9 to ten am it time for him to get up and rolling, playing…talking to him self same every morning i felt in sleep just one minute or two and so i heard a sound slamming floor and he start to creaming loud but after i pick him up he no more crying and acting normally and smile but to me tit now i still feel guilty and worry even my husband try to tell me he fine it okay. I think every baby always have Gad or some kind of Good spirit protected them, it is so true to me however i am thanks that my baby perfectly fine and i wish he have a bright future and growing as a good person for the family. i really release after i read all these comments i feel a lot of better now . Thank you so much!!

It seems like my 5 week old likes to beat her self up on my body parts. I was breast feeding her and she started to slide off the pillow and i put my hand under her head quick to catch her head and she smacked the back of her head off my hand. Then 10 min later i was finishing feeding her and she lifted her head and then plopped it back down on my arm. Should i worry about anything? I mean she usually does something like this, when i or anyone holds her she likes to hit her head off the persons chest. i dont know why. Should i worry about this? She doesnt cry and she acts like her normal self.

  17. Saddddddd...

I thought it would never happen to my 6 month old baby….cos i’m a careful dad. However, it happened yest. Despite putting pillow and bolster around the bed, she managed to crawl pass the comforter and fell off the bed. I was dozing off at that moment! When it happened, i thought and hoped it was just a bad dream….cos i couldn’t see her on her cot. When her cries persisted, i realized then that it’s really her and she had really really really fallen off the bed.
She seemed ok. PLaying and drinking and no vomiting so far. Her eye is blue black though. Feeling really really bad though.
Will con’t to monitor her. Praying that her guardian angel will watch over her, protect her and take good care of her…

  18. Anna’s mom

    hello moms,
Anna is my first baby she’s just turned 5 months, a few days ago she fell from her chair into the carpet and bumped her head. She started crying but when I held her she stopped.I called her doctor, and he said to watch her 24 hours for vomiting, paleness or loss of conscious. A few hours later she ate her bottle and vomited in small amount, I thought it was normal, but now after 3 days she’s still vomiting in small amounts, even after 2 hours from eating. The doctor said she’s ok,but I’m very worried should I seek a second opinion? is this normal?

  19. Jess

My little girl is nearly 7 months and last week she would sit on the floor and go to reach for something and bang her head on the floor… One bruise… She did it twice in the same day.

If you couldn’t see the bruise the first time, you could see it then. About an hour ago she fell off my bed. I know she can crawl, sit up and even stand holding on to stuff. But, she was fast asleep on my lap on the couch and I had to Pee SOOOOOO bad, so I laid her down for like 20 seconds, however long it takes to tinkle.

Then I heard the loudest Pound on my hardwood floor and I almost sh** myself. Not only did she fall 3 1/2 feet, but she hit the wooden bed frame on the way down. She was crying and stunned, I made sure she could move her arms and legs, toes and neck before picking her up, once I did, it didn’t take long for her to stop crying.

Put some ice on it and gave her pedia care, made sure she could pick up her toys and stand, sit, pull up…she was fine.

She has a huge lump with a scratch and right now she’s bouncing in her doorway swing. She was always curious about what was off the bed, always trying to look…well, it’s a lesion in depth perception.

A lot further down than you think!

wow its amazing 2 c how common this is n it seems like in most cases is babies turn out fine but only very few cases is very serious…i told my fiance i was dead tired n headed 2 bed, so she leaves the baby in the bed for me 2 watch n i just suggested 2 put him in the crib…she rushed in 4 a bath n i dosed off next thing i hear a BANG! i freaked out seen my boy face down on the vinyl tile floor…my girl screamed as she heard the hit; i picked him up; he cried for just a min…baby seemed ok no sign of trauma…we felt so guilty; i still feel like crap…my stomach turned n i got nauseous n became eery..we took him 2 the ER…DOC took a quick look n said he was fine…my girl puked soo much outside the ER for like 20 mins she was soo nervous…this is heartbreaking 2 any caring parent…at this point all we can do is pray that is just like the doc said n he will b just fine…definately gonna b more careful next time…i never felt soo guilty in my life…my poor kid is also battling some sort of stomach virus which is keeping him irritable so this is our 2 trip 2 the ER bk 2 bk plus a docs visit…n 2 top it off i just had sinus surgery…its been a very crazy week indeed for us here dealing w all this but i guess the trick is 2 realize that its all part of life, things happen n as the adults we have 2 remain calm cool n collected in order 2 protect our families n young ones…a prayer 2 all the parents out there dealing w diff times…god bless u all n may we all come ahead winners in the end n b able 2 laugh about it later…my advice as a father of 2 boys is simply whenever ur unsure whether u should take ur child 2 the doctors office or ER, simply just go, is better 2 b safe than sorry, plus early detection n prevention r always best medicines…everything material can b replaced except ur little wonders…we live thru them n they will outlive us…

  24. Beatriz

Thank you, thank you for all of your comments and words of encouragement. My 8 month old fell off of our bed today as well. I normally watch her like a hawk, but she was sleeping, and I went to answer the door for just a minute when she must have woken up and edged off the bed. I felt TERRIBLE!! It’s one of those things you often don’t talk about with friends for fear of them judging, but I’m so glad that I could hear all of these consoling words from all of you. She cried for only a couple minutes and I felt all over her body for bumps or pain. I tried to stay calm and reassuring for her sake – hard as that was to do. She now is playing and being her normal giggly self, so i’ll watch her for the next couple of days and NEVER will I leave her on the bed alone – I never want to go through something like this again if I can help it!

My 10 mnth baby girl fell from my bed approx. 2 ft and I took her to the doctor, he told me the first 10 hours are the most critical, she is fine, still her good old self, but it is alway good to hear from the doctor that she is fine.

  28. Jacob

My stepdad made my 9 months brother fall on the table, letting my brother twist his arm and he cried soo much like for 10min and after like 5 min everytime my mom touches his arm he will crie so hard. She was gonna take him to the hospital but now they decided to stay and do nothing just because he’s playing with he’s toys. And my stepdad (I really hate him sooo much) he is saying oh don’t worrie he’s fine, all babies fall and crie for a long time and then they are fine… Should I tell my mom to take him to the hospital?

    1. Paula @ easybabylife

I am sorry to hear about your brother’s fall. Whether to take him to the hospital or not will depend on if he continues to be in pain if someone touches his arm or if he seems reluctant or unable to use it. Sometimes babies do cry for a long time without it being anything serious but watch him carefully over the next few hours to see how things develop.

  29. Sofia

My 9 months baby girl fell off the bed while I was in a deep sleep last night. Thanks God that she is fine and play as normal now.

My sons are 3yrs and 22 months. (The are both climbing on the sofa as I write this)

I have learned that my favorite purchase is called bed rails. They are designed for twin size beds, but if you put 1 on each side of your bed they help.

Every day I slide them under my matress. Trust me, my sons are always getting hurt. (My 3 yr old got stitches a year ago on the right side of his forehead because he tried going up TWO stairs and hit the corner.

  31. Mary

My mom watched my 9 month old son for my year anniversary with my boyfriend at our campground, and he fell off the tall bed she has. She didn’t call me until they were about to go home. But he was acting cranky like he had a bruise underneath his arm. He was using it and it clearly was not broken, but I obviously was freaking out and decided to take him to the emergency room the second she brought him home, because I’d rather waste my time and be safe than sorry.

Well that was the right thing because it turns out he had a closed fracture in his collar bone! It broke my heart completely, and to this day my mother is devastated and doesn’t set him down when she sees him.

He was a great little trooper though, and was back to getting into everything within two days. But I’d still always rather be safe than sorry if anything were to ever seem wrong. Don’t beat yourself up, just make sure your little acrobat is fine. :) They won’t remember anyways.

My baby girl fell from the bed today she was walking around in front of me and all of a sudden she took off to the other side of the bed and fell. She hit her forehead and under her eye.

I felt so guilty. She threw up twice but after 5 min she was back to normal. But had a little bit of trouble walking. She fell on her butt a few times but seemed to be ok. I guess the angels never left her side.

  33. Paranoid Mom

I wanted to share this also to lessen my guilt because I really felt responsible of my baby’s falling off the bed.

It happened yesterday at 7am. Usually my baby would sleep in a cradle or in a crib, but since it’s my rest day, I took the time to really make it up with her, sleep with her and to watch her the whole day. She was already awake then, I even mixed a bottle of milk and I’m supposed to be awake as well but since it was raining, I laid and went back to sleep until I heard as if something dropped and next was my baby’s crying laying down on the floor.

I immediately picked her up and my husband was already yelling and panicing although he’s trying to hold his temper. My baby cried for like 10-15mins.

I didn’t expect it to happen, because I put some pillows around so as to avoid that the baby would fall down. But it was too late.

For now she’s okay and back to normal again. After an hour she slept after an hour and drank her milk. We were supposed to bring her to the doctor yesterday but there’s a storm, so I just watch her while I’m crying, hold her hand and always saying sorry for being so careless.

I even called my mom nd prayed for her over the phone. My mom comforted me and said everything is okay, just have faith in the Lord that she’ll be alright. Still I was crying all night and kept on blaming myself for what had happened.

I really do hope and pray that my baby is well. I just love her so much and I don’t know what to do if something bad happened to her. She’s just so small. I’m already paranoid.

We might bring her to a doctor today to undergo examination, x-ray or whatever steps necessary to make sure she’s fine. It’s just now I realize that health is so much more important than money. I even prayed hard that He can take away all we have invested, money and everything but not to harm my baby.

From now on I promised to always take extra precautions on my baby. I also thank my family for always being there to comfort me.

Above comments make you think if baby falls down from a table top or a tree top and bump on his head there’s nothing to worry about.

This is totally wrong. A fall on the head could have serious consequences for the baby and cause a sudden loss of vision, brain damage, concussion, vomiting, dizziness or nose bleed. It may require urgent treatment and/or surgery. Only the doctor is able to assess the damage. It is not to be taken lightly or left to chance.

I know a case where the child fell upon his face on the floor and lost his sight instantly. The doctor said his retina was damaged due to bleeding in the inside of the eye and needed an operation when he grew up in order to be able to see again. After a few years of treatment and surgical procedures on the eyes his vision still could not be completely restored.

Another cousin of mine fell down from some height in her childhood and ever since she has suffered recurring hysterical fits and related illnesses and can’t have a normal life. That’s sad and too bad just because of one moment of recklessness.

    So BEWARE all Moms!!!

  35. june

Don’t leave your baby on a couch bed or anything high. Leave them on the floor in a play pen or play yard. I put my 7 month old daughter down for a quick second to get lotion in the same room on the dresser and then heard a huge thump. I turned to see her on her side crying. I felt so bad I picked her up and tried to calm her down.

I called and made and made an appointment. She didn’t throw up or have any bumps or lumps. I still feel bad about it. This was the first time and when I was in for her appt the pediatrician wasn’t even concerned or checking her joints or eyes for normal reaction or pain that mad me pissed she only checked her head.

Oh and may I add she called a social worker in and they were interrogating me like I said this was the first time it happened.

My suggestion is you mide as well check for these symptoms on your own. Did the baby lose consciousness, are they bleeding anywhere, did they vomit, acting normal?

If they are acting different or vomit and not eating normally, call a pediatrician.

My 8 month old also fell off the bed…

It’s about 3 feet high I put big pillows amd blankets all around him but it did not matter I heard him moving I ran in just in time to see him flip over hitting his head and land on his back. I feel terrible! I will be waking him up every hour on the hour tonight. I feel so bad. I am worse then he is he cried for a couple of minutes but is back to playing. Where he hit feels flat should I worry it was carpeted. Dr says watch for vomiting but I feel bad..

This afternoon my 14 month old fell out of her carseat head first onto cement. We had just stopped at the market for a few things I had her in the cart while I was placing the bags in th car I just finished putting them in when cart boy came for the cart I quick grabbed her and placed her in her seat not buckling her in I just needed to get my purse out the cart and then I was going to buckle her in. In that split second I turn to see her falling out head first. She has a road rash and bruises on her forehead. :( she cried so hard for about 15 minutes. She seemed fine but now (6hrs later) she is not sleeping well waking up and screaming. Should I get her checked out?

    Thanks

    Hi,

My 6 months baby fell down from the bed in the wee hrs about 4.30 am two days back.We checked all her body we found that she was crying when we touch her left arm.And she is as fine as she was normal no other complaints.

We rushed to the pediatrician and he suggested for x ray , and it was normal. As she was feeling pain , he prescribed a tonic.

On the next day morning , we observed that her right arm with swelling then again rushed to the same Dr and again gone for x-ray and we found no fracture.

Then he suggested to consult orthopedic doctor, and the orthopedic told that babies never get fractured as there bones are like elastic and he suggested with the same medicine.

And today my baby is suffering from cough since morning and she vomitted in the noon and evening.

Then we are very worried is it due to the injury to head when she fell off from the bed or due to her cough. We are rushing to the hospital again.

My 3.5 mth old just rolled out of my arms and fell while I was sitting on the couch and nodded off briefly. I was horrified when I was jolted out of my sleep by the crying, whats worse, it happend before my 5 yr old son who promptly ran to tell his father. it did not help when he asked me how I could let that happen.

I feel like a horrible mother and a failure, she seems fine thank God, but I’m sure I wont be for a few days.

My little boy is 6 months old and he fell off of our bed last night. our bed isn’t very tall because its just a mattress on the floor since we have no frame. i went to check on him and he was asleep next to his daddy. i went to switch out my laundry and thats when i heard a loud THUD and my baby screaming. i dropped my laundry and ran into my room. and there he was lying on the floor at the foot of the bed.I picked him up looked him over and saw that he had a bump on his head and also a small one by his eye. i felt like the worst mom in the world and still do. i called our pediatrician and they told me not to worry that he would be fine but today he has a bruise on his little forehead. :'( he seems to be fine today acting and playing like normal. so any one have any advice as to help me stop beating myself up over what happened.? i am 19 yrs old and this is my first baby,

my baby fell off the bed yesterday, i just took my eye off her for a split seconds and i heard a loud thud, i was scared out of my skin, she had a bump on the side of her forehead, i consoled her and gently massaged the bump, i later put ice on it for her, she creid for some minutes but she’s fine….she took a nap for about 10mins and is now back to her playful self..though i still feel so bad about it, i kept replaying the scene in my head i wish i could have prevented it.

My baby just fall down from a very high sofa will anything happen to him ? He still eat and play but i am still very worry

  45. Loredana123

He fall face down of his high chair, it was loose….I underestimate his movements. He is fine, he cried for 5-10 minutes, brought him outside for some fresh air, gave him a bath, put his pj and cuddled him for a bit. Now, he is sleeping, he seems fine. I thank God that h had protected my baby. As a mother, I feel very guilty. We have to have eyes everywhere :)

First off I have a comment for the people that are posting on this thread saying that others arent watching there kids or being bad parents . How did you run across this thread ? Why are you reading it ? Just so you can pass judgement on people who are asking for help over this kind of situation ? I have raised 5 kids I am overly protective and if one of my kids gets hurt its devistating . 2 of my children are grown up 3 live at home still one is only 7 months old and she is my little princess . I am so overly protective over her and am the first to be angry when she gets hurt in others care . About an hour ago I was sitting on my bed with her playing games making kissy face fart noises whatever I could to get those smiles I love to see . I turned for a second to put a bowl on the dresser and she slinked right over my leg in a milisecond and slipped right onto the floor . This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me . She is fine tho I checked her soft spot for swelling made sure she responded to her name and the typical things that made her laugh after she stopped crying . These kinds of things happen and in all cases its best to ask someone that has had a few kids because I ASSURE you something like this has happened to them .

  47. Liz

Thank you all so much for your comments.

I usually put my son to sleep breastfeeding in my bed. So I did the same thing as usual, put him to sleep, surrounded him with pillows and went to study for my midterm in the other room. I always do this and he is always fine. I kick myself for not realizing that since he is starting to move around a bunch I should not leave him alone in my bed but it is so hard to get him to fall asleep elsewhere. Usually I transfer him from my bed to his while he is alseep but I didn’t this time. I heard a loud thud and then him screaming and my heart sank. I feel like such a bad mom. I usually check on him like crazy but since I was studying, I was distracted. I called 911 and a paramedic came and said just to keep an eye on him but he seems fine. No blood, no marks, and he is happy and laughing. I still feel like everyone else including my husband is underreacting! I guess I must be the one underreacting. I hope he is ok. I love him so much, I am going to be monitoring him and NEVER leaving him alone in my bed again.

My 7 month old just fell off the bed 3 hours ago! I had just finished giving him his bath and he was sitting on the bed and I was applying cream on his body- turned around to keep the lotion back on the table and he fell on his head and I watched in agony as he fell straight on his head. He also scraped his nose so it was a smudged with a little blood. Called 9/11 and after 3 hours of nonstop crying, he is fast asleep in his crib and I am going to check on him every hour or so just to make sure hes doing okay. Doctor said that as long as he acts normal and isn’t puking he should be fine. I feel so devastated and feel so pathetic that I let this happen to my little man. But to Err is human and we only learn from our mistakes!

today started off fine, i had a good nights’ sleep. had a run when i woke up (my son has a nanny). n to top it all off, my son officially turns 9mos today! anyway, had a nap and woke up around 10ish to get ready for work. i heard my son mumbling downstairs so i told the nanny to bring him up in the bedroom where i was getting ready. i usually just go on ahead with fixing myself while i watch my son from a tiny distance (about 3feet)on our bed surrounded with pillows. i just give him stuff to keep him interested and put. if i have to get something on the other room, i bring him with me. i usually never leave him alone. i was abt close to getting done when he started to get a lil handful so i yelled for the nanny to come get him, i yelled twice – she didnt hear me. so i strategically placed my son on the center of the bed and again surround him with pillows so i can yell alot closer at the door for the nanny to hear me calling for her. but just when i was just finished yelling, i turned my head and saw my son at the edge of our bed abt to fall. i leaped quick but it was too late. BAMM he fell off hitting his forehead on our wooden floor. i tell you, my heart skipped a beat like 10 times over!! my baby cried but was back laughing his cute tiny butt off after 15mins. even ate his lunch right after he stopped crying!! i skipped work to keep an eye on him. all i can say is, it freaked me out even if he’s already out there strolling like nothing just happened. thank God for guardian angels!!!

      Hi,
I hope your daughter is fine! She seems to be an active little girl, so be sure to put her on the floor if you have to leave her even for a minute.

      xo, Paula

My 7 month baby fell off the bed too…
I was so worried she fell. She fell facing the floor. I kept aplologising to her. I feel so guilty for not putting her on the floor or putting her in her crib in the first place. That was the worst thud I heard in my life. She cried then went right back to her normal self, playnig and cooing. I will be watching her all night tonight.

Hi… I was just worried that my sOn fell from our couch through his head and it’s really hard cause I loudly heard a big blog and after saw him lying on the floor while his feet on air still… My heartbeat stop that moment And feel sorry for my child for what had happened. Then I gave him water afterwards but keep on crying for just about 5 mins. Although he gets back into his normal routine… I’m still worried if he had an internal hemorrhage or what. Dont have family member to help me, that’s why I’m too much worried.

  55. Guilt forever?

He Just turned 3 months, and yesterday I jolted out of bed and screamed because i was awaken by a thump and a loud cry. I usually always put pillows on the side of him and place him in the middle of the bed once my husband leaves for work in the morning. We have a king sized bed. But I was so tired and for some reason laid him back on the other side of me and his head wasnt angled in the direction i usually lay him. I can’t get the image of him laying head first on the floor with his little feet over his body crying. It was only a split second and I sprang up and scooped him up and he immediately stopped crying and was smiling at me a few seconds later. He seems to be completely normal but I just feel so horrible. No bumps or vomitting or anything. Reading these comments makes me feel better. I didn’t even tell my husband bec I don’t want him to think I’m a bad mother. I keep playing it over and over in my head and wonder if that horrible feeling and image will stay with me forever?

  57. Louise

Unbelievable reading all of these comments!! I have three kids and somehow managed to keep any of them from falling off beds or anything like that. I dunno, guess I just paid attention to my kids and was aware at all times!

    1. Bre

Its not uncommon for children to fall off of furniture, just because something like this happens, doesn’t mean that we are bad parents or we are not keeping an eye on our children. Accidents happen. By reading your post, I feel like that you are judging others by their mistakes…people learn by them, its a part of life.

I know numerous people, who are careful and don’t let their babies out of their sight, and that child rolls off a bed or a settee

    2. Amelia

We are not bad mothers, we move for a split second, they fall. Dont try and act like you are perfect. We’re worried parents that try to do the right things on here. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have one of the nappy disposal units in my babys room, after emptying it an hour ago, i brought it back up. As where i keep it was cluttered, i put it on a chair next to my little boys cot. When the space was cleared, i picked it up and the lid fell off, bounced off the mattress onto my babys head. He cried for a few minutes, but stayed alert and is now giggling in his sleep.

I have experience with accidents but nothing with children as such. Do you think he’ll be ok? hes only 6 weeks 5 days old

what happens to a 8 month old baby falls and hit head falls to sleep then wake up fine?what should i do ? is he gonna be ok

  61. Emma

my 8 month old fell down the bed while i was looking for her night dress… i usually take extra care to make sure she doesnt fall off the bed by distracting her with the toys she likes the most, but today i didnt even think of them… it was my fault that she fell down… but when i thought about why i didnt take the usual precautions, i realized i was sleep deprived for the past few days due to travel and her night wakings… i feel like a bad mommy for not taking care of her and sleepign while she took her afternoon nap today but spent some time for myself… hoping that she is alright…

  62. Dee

Just less than 1 hour ago my 8 months old sweetest princess fell down right.in front of my own eyes. She just learned how to crawl, and just learn to sit perfectly on her own, and I am just so proud of her. In a family gathering, she has her 2 cousins, slightly older than her, around. So the mums put them side by side and started acting like paparazzi. She fell to the floor,in a split second in the middle of the photo shoot, and I just felt like a big idiot… I wanted to die right there and then…
She cried really hard, and I breastfed her, compress the forehead with ice pack. I feel like I want to die… However..Now she is normal…smiling and eating her porridge… But I am scarred forever… I promised to be extra careful in the future.

My baby 11-month-old and fell off the bed 4-5 times in a month. I am in tension, so what can I do for it? The mother was hearing sound (blow) and crying very much. PL tell what step we taken

  65. Annapoorna

Last night my 8 month baby boy fell off the bed.
May be in dark he didn’t notice. We also don’t know when he woke up and fell off. He got little injury in mouth. His upper lip was broken and mouth filled with blood. We terrified but after 3-5 min he stopped crying. The wound is gone in 4 days.

  66. lizz

I been reading all your comment and I don’t know if they make me feel better. I’m a second time mom and that never happened to my first one. What I can say I guess I wasn’t thinking. I should know better by now. We have a area rug, but he fell on the hardwood floor. As you see I still very upset, I just happened last night, I just waiting for today and see how he does today.
For the sweet grandma that wrote before, take baby to the Dr or tell your dear ones to do it, I think after many time of somebody falling or banging the head many time it could be very dangerous if not think about the people that practice boxing, many someday the baby can be know out forever. It just takes to be in a bad time and moment when lethal thing happen. I will be praying for that little baby and al the other ones too.
I’m still so sad about this situation, even if happen at all of us, that shouldn’t be the case, is way we are here to take care of them. I’m sorry I can not help. But I guess is good to have this feelings it show that we care and also to remember never do it again.
And for the ones that sleep with baby on bed better to buy a crib or ask for one for free, they are way to fast and at night is impossible to keep track of those sweet little ones.

  67. Julia

Hi after reading all the comments i no longer feel so awful.

My 6 and a half month old son fell off the bed about 30mins ago. He cried a little after but had his usual morning bottle and is playing quite happily on the floor with his toys. I checked for bruising and checked his limbs but all is ok. I will keep my eye on him for the next few days.just so glad im not the only one. It was awful we always have morning cuddles before he has his bottle and i must have dozed back off for a few seconds next thing i hear was bang and my boy crying. I feel dreadful and keep saying to myself im a bad mum. But after reading all the comments i know no its a common thing. I wont be taking my eyes off him from now on. I couldn’t bear to hear that cry again.

    Thankyou all

  68. Mommy of a sweet and cuddly baby girl

My daughter Kaylee is 7 months old and she fell asleep last night and I put her on my bed that comes up to my thigh and put pillows and blankets around her but away from her face, and I went to put some things up and then the next minute I know I heard a loud thump and a loud cry and when I went in my bedroom I seen her lying on my floor and my baby girl head underneath our bed frame and she was caught between our wall and our bed frame. and my hubby is an Emt so he checked her out and he said everything was fine, but then all day she was spitting up and last night she didn’t sleep good, so I called up to our hospital and talked to them and they said to keep an eye on her and make sure there was nothing abnormal. But she seem to be doing well and better, I just think she has a really bad headache now. So like the other mom said don’t trust any blankets or pillows cause once they start to roll around watch out.

My son is 12weeks old an as i was feeding him a bottle and his head rolled off my knee an hit the bed really hard. He cried straight away an was even holding his breath a bit but he do this when he cries sometimes. He seemed fine after about 10mins, chatting and smiling an stayed awake for about an 40mins after. He has now gone to sleep. I am just really worried especially as he is so small only 12weeks old. I know that i will not be able to go to sleep at all now i feel terrible! What should i do now, shall i leave him sleep? what are the signs that i should be looking out for?!!

  71. MommaYoga

My 7 month old just fell off the bed and hit his head on the book case.I don’t know how he moved so fast from the middle of the bed to the edge, but he’s started scooting and I just knew this would happen sooner or later. Thankfully the bed is only about two feet off the ground, maybe less since it’s a futon platform bed. The bad part was that he fell on his bottom but hit his head on the edge of the bookcase when he teetered over. He has a little red bump and I was completely freaked out. But he only cried for less than a minute. Then I gave him some ice chips to sooth him and to teach him to be calmed by the ice chips and he was fine and back to normal within two minutes of falling. I would not take him to the emergency room unless he had displayed abnormal behavior. Emergency rooms are extremely hazardous and mostly a waste of time and money.

My 6 month baby fell down from bed, about 3.5 feet high. I asked my mom if we could go to the pediatrician today. My mom said, there’s no doctor today because, today is a holiday. Doctors available today are on E.R.’s only. My baby vomited already twice and feels sleepy. I’m so worried. What should I do???

    1. Petra

Macky, Hope you took your baby to the Emergency for the baby to vomit is not a good sign 🙁 hope baby is ok now

  73. Worried mum

I am so pleased to have found such numerous comments and advice from so many mothers whom this has happened to…I thought I was the only one.

Obviously it’s not a nice thing to happen to anyone because it’s absolutely heart-breaking. I left my 6-month-old son in the middle of the bed while I went to fetch his milk from the kitchen, as I turned to go back to the room I just heard a big thud and he started crying…, I wanted to die. Now I keep asking myself why I had left him on the bed…why hadn’t I taken him with me or put him in his cot bed? But it’s very re-assuring to know that many mothers have been through this traumatic experience.

Despite being worried I know that the Lord our God is always there watching over our babies (and us) and he’ll never let any harm come to them.

May he continue to protect our little angels day and night…?

  74. Danielle

I’m so relieved after reading all you Mums’ comments. My 5month old girl fell off the bed this morning & it was really terrible seeing her lying on the floor. She cried for about 2mins & was back to normal.
I do really believe that there are angels all around. Thank God for having a watch over my little angel…

My boy fell from the bed in Jan and then he fell down from the bed again in Feb. This time round with a huge thud…

He was at the center of the bed when I was at the master room toilet. Hence, when I heard the thud and ran out to see him. He was lying on the floor, faced up with a bump on his forehead.

My husband and I took him to the A & E after he threw up from his feed. Thankfully, when the doctors and Pediatricians checked him,

Hi, I too feel horrible. I’ve always heard that it is quite common for babies to fall or roll off the bed, but I didn’t expect it to happen to my baby. It did today, and I feel so bad. I keep replaying the scene over and over again in my head. I was trying to get ready quickly to get out of the house with my baby to take her to the zoo. She is 3 1/2 months old and was crying when I laid her on her back, so I propped her up against a pillow on the bed so she would stop crying. I turned my back for a few seconds to get a shirt out of my dresser, literally 2 feet away from where my baby was, and the next thing I hear is my baby’s scream after a thump. She toppled over and rolled off the bed onto the carpeted floor. I picked her up immediately, hugging and appologizing to her, trying not to cry or get to upset myself so as not to upset her more. As soon as she stopped screaming and crying about 5-10 minutes later, I called the nurse at her pediatrician’s office. She assured me that it happens often, that of course you’ll feel like a horrible mother, but you ARE NOT A HORRIBLE MOTHER! I have to keep telling myself that because I feel so bad. Like others have said here it is often more difficult on the parent than on the baby. No bumps, scratches or bruises on my little one. I’m going to start putting her on the floor, or strapped in to one of her seats from now on. I can not let this happen again, not only for her sake, but for my sanity. I’m exhausted now from the stress of what happened this morning, but I don’t want to go to sleep…I just want to keep checking in on her. The nurse said to keep an eye on her and to look for anything that seems different, but so far there is nothing. She’s her normal, cute, smiley self.

My advice to those of you this has happened to; remain calm and don’t be too hard on yourself. The power of your thought is amazing. if you get down on yourself, for this ACCIDENT it may lead to other accidents, who knows. Please be strong for you and your baby. Remind yourself of all the great things you do for her/him, and think of all the things that make your baby amazing. Of course…do all of this after you assess your baby naked and have considered at least calling your doctor or nurse hotline. Calling at first for me seemed like admitting that I am a bad mom, but I soon realized that a bad mom is one who knows there is something you can do, but refuse to do it. That’s not to say you have to call the nurse if your baby falls, but in general, I guess. Do everything you feel like you should, whether or not you want to for the benefit of your baby.

My good thoughts are being sent in the direction of any mother having to deal with this accident. Be strong!

Today my 5 month baby fell off the bed while i was making a bottle, the bed is pretty high from the ground. when i saw him on the floor i started to cry i was so scared. but he wasn’t crying that much until i picked him up and started babying him and saying sorry. i feel like im a bad mom, i feel terrible and cant get it off my mind. im still trying to figure out how he was on one side of the bed and ended up on the other side of the floor. he is acting normal like nothing happened. and my mother in law said my husband fell off the bed many times n he was always fine. i thank his guardian angels for making him ok.

  79. andrea

I feel guilty… I have a 8month old baby… she’s fallen already 2 times out of my bed… once out of my moms bed… on all 3 falls it sounded like she could b hurting… but n all 3 she cries for a min and once we put her on the floor she starts playing with her toys.. but tonite… on her 3rd fall I noticed she didn’t want to let go of me when I picked her up from the floor… those that mean there’s something going on with her.. she played for a while.. she ate 4 ounces of milk and now she’s sleeping… wat should I do????

And as u can see I’m a very irresponsible and bad 1st time mother…

    1. Grampi

No scolding Andrea but you REALLY have to be more careful. Once? Happens to everyone, but three times? You have to watch after ANY fall for signs of concussion or other injury, and perhaps see your pediatrician, but if these three times have been relatively close together you should definitely gtet her checked out – like football players with multiple concussions – babies with multiple falls and blows to the head can be a very bad thing. Stop wondering and hitting message boards – take her to an ER or your pediatrician immediately!

  80. Grampi

About a week ago, while our son was “watching” her, our 8 month old grand daughter rolled off their high bed and fell onto a very hard wood over concrete floor. He found her face down crying. There seemed to be no after effects except this past Saturday she was her normal self, but Monday extremely whiny and tired while my wife watched her – and, and this is a BIG and, she does not seem to recognize me any more. I used to be greeted with smiles and the “full body smile” – arms and legs flailing – but now it is as though I am a total stranger. She seems ok with my wife who watches her 3 days a week, but I get nothing but a blank, or worse, almost apprehensive look. I am worried something happened to her in the fall, but afraid to say anything to my son – he feels guilty enough already. Any thoughts?

    dear readers,

just 8 hours back i did a most worst act in my life. when my baby cried and waked up i took from her bed and held her with my left harm went to prepare her food in ketchen. suddenly she rolled and (still i m n’t able to realise how i lost my grib on her) fell on her back fully inside the kitchem sink which has a stainless steel kadaiwith water. i doknow what has happen for a moment. she sacred for a while and fully wet with water in washing sink. i cried and hits my head on doors as i itself made her fall down. i examined her well, no bumps but small bleed clot likt dot on her back neck. the bad thing is already for d past five days she is having 99 to 100 degree fever. she cried for some time looking at me and after 15minutes i gace her food. she eats well, plays and responds to my action. no vomits or guidyness. she feels sleepy after 1 1/2 hour and i meade her to sleep. in order to monitor, i wakes her at night, she wakes ups well and smiles at me.after my feeding again goes asleep. i planned to go to doctor tomorrow and decided to take CT scan for brain for my satisfaction and future saftey. through this i like to ask sorry 2 my daughter 4 my bad thing. i pray 2 god to keep my child healthy and good. so friends plz, reply me wat to do to subside my fear, guilty and panic.

My six month old just fell off the bed yesterday. I am submitting my post because this website helped a lot with my fear and guilt. My son was sleeping on my bed and I stepped out for two seconds. I heard a big thud and a cry that I had never heard before. I rushed him to our family doctor and she said that everything was fine. I later took him home and noticed that his eye was swelling a bit. I rushed him to the hospital where they took good care of him and told me again that everything was fine. My bed is almost three feet off the ground and he landed on hardwood flooring. They said that babies are made of tough stuff. My mom said it best, ” You don’t know the true meaning of guilt until you have a baby.”

  83. Guilty Parent Syndrome

This Mama had the same thing happen. We let him play with his toys on the ned and both myself and his daddy were in the room getting ready when our 7 month old stood up and climbed right over the extra long extra wide queen sized bedrails. He fell right on his back (according to daddy) I was standing infront of his change table and he landed right by my feet. I was a wreck just screaming we have to get him checked. We saw the ped a few minutes ago and now I am watching him sleep for his regular nap. I feel like waking him to make sure he is okay…but I will just sit here and stare. I was told to just make sure he has normal sleep patterns no vomit and is acting normal. I can’t beleive that happened since we even use the change table strap. I won’t forgive myself:(

Our 5 mo baby fell for the first ( and hopefully only!) time today. I had her next to me to breastfeed and I accidentally fell asleep. I woke up to a thud on our tile floor. Our bed is about 2 feet high. She rolled off back first. I picked her up immediately and held her as she cried. She cried for a few minutes and stopped. I assessed her for any red flags and she was fine. About half an hour later, she ate and took a nap for about 45 mins. She’s been fine, rolling over and blowing spit bubbles. I am so grateful she isn’t worse. She has a bump on the back of her head. I will keep monitoring her for the next 24 hrs. I cried for a few minutes after she had calmed down but won’t beat myself up about it. It has happened to so many and is a hard lesson to be much more cautious to prevent this from happening again. Thank you everyone for sharing your stories. Reassured me and glad to know I’m not the only one. God bless you all.

Thanks for sharing. It’s a horrible feeling when they fall. :-( Great that she seems to be fine. Take care!

My 10 month old fell off the bed today and I was a wreck. I literally just walked off to fix his blanket and when i turned around i saw him falling but couldn’t catch him. My heart stopped when i saw and heard his head hit the floor, i couldn’t stop screaming. i picked him up and took him outside to calm him down and he seemed fine after that. i waited half hr before putting him down for a nap though and he’s been good throughout the day. he’s crying in his sleep and i can’t help but worry if it had anything to do with the fall. i kept hugging him, crying and apologising. i feel like the worst mom in the world, it’s never happened before or to my other child. i guess you really do need eyes behind your head, and there are definitely angels watching over our babies. i’m so relieved to have read the other stories on here, makes me feel better to see that it does happen sometimes. i still feel so guilty though.

VJ, my son fell from bed yesterday, though he was ok within few mins i still went to pediatrician. he has asked me to observe for 24hrs, but my son is ok now. i am still worried. i will be ok only after this observation time ends.

        I hope baby’s ok…fingers crossed!!

when my baby was in her 3rdmonth she fell on our bed..its my fault I was doing her milk then I put her in the middle on our bed. Then the 2nd time..she rolled down ..when I was asleep I guess she was on her 4thmonth..the 3rd time on her stroller..I didnt noticed that the side pillow was not fixed so she fell down again..but She acted as normal as usual to her self..should I go for an xray just to be secure. or Twill take a year if the baby have a bad effect or unusual affect during those falling months of her. HMMMMM IM SO GUILT I GUESS IM NOT THAT GOOD MOTHER AFTER ALL. Im just a teenage mom =’C

So, this was the second time that the baby fell from my bed. I was horrified. The first time, she had barely learned to roll and was sleeping in bed with me. And I awoke to a THUD and saw my darling crying face down on the floor. My husband came crashing through the door with my mother-in-law soon to follow. I grabbed my baby and comforted her and received the harshest criticism from my husband calling me a bad mother and to never put her on the bed again.

However, the 2nd time she fell…husband and I were both watching the baby and he says, “It’s so hot, I’m going to turn on the AC.” And as he is leaving out the door, I step away to go to the closet for a second when I hear a THUD and precious darling had fallen again. This time around my husband takes the baby and gives her to his mom and does not let me touch her, even when the baby was crying to be comforted by me. My baby kept reaching for me but mother-in-law would not let me touch her. Mother-in-law yanked her away from me and tore my hands away from her when I tried to hold her, saying, “You are not fit to be a mother. Her falling once could happen to anyone, but her falling a 2nd time forfeits you from this child. You should be on your knees apologizing to me for dropping her.”

I was so outraged and on the verge of hysteria that my mother-in-law would not even let me touch my 6 month old child, let alone think that I owe her an apology. My baby falling was more traumatic on me than anyone, how dare she keep my child away from me?? Is that fair? My husband could have at least warned me to watch the baby when he was stepping away. We were both stepping away at the same time. How come the blame falls on me!

And there stood my husband next to my mother-in-law, who was holding my crying child and me on the other side, crying, and facing them.

    1. Paula @ easybabylife

      Hi Kayla,

What a horrible experience you must have had with your baby falling for the second time and then being dismissed as an unfit mother when it happened! I really feel sorry for you!

Unless you and your mother-in-law already have a poor relationship, I guess that her reaction was due to shock. People can do the weirdest, most inappropriate things when scared and upset.

When things have calmed down a bit, try to talk to your husband about it, telling him how sad and traumatic the event was for you. If you don’t blame him, it is more likely that he will understand your side of it. Then maybe he can help you talk to his mother; either he does it or you or the two of you together.

I really hope the three of you manage to talk about the situation so that it won’t create negativity going forward.

      Take care,

my baby fell from bed 2 months ago, she was 7 month-old, i took her to the nearest clinic, the doctor says she’s fine and i just need to observe her. and dont let it happen again. But just last week she fell from a 3-feet tall bed again! i was terrible, my heart sank, i’m a lousy mom coz i let it happen again.. and now i am worried about her condition.. no one knows this, except me and my auntie, not even my husband.

just yesterday-6 days after she fell from bed she vommitted. i dont know if this is just the symptoms of teething, because her teeth are erupting on the upper incisor. or could this be the effect of falling from bed for the second time? i hope and pray that this is just her teeth erupting. please give me advice to those who experience this. i’m a first timer mom. and too worried for my baby.

I’m relieved to see I’m not the only one this happened to. My 3 MONTH old was laying on his boppy pillow on the couch, I only walked away to my kitchen for a few seconds. As I was watching him, he started kicking and moving a lot and then I saw him roll off my 2ft couch on to a rug with hard tile underneath it and land on his face. I feel so terrible I couldnt catch him in time.

He cried for a couple mins, and then acted back to normal, but I still immediately took him to the doctor, the doctor checked his pupils, and made sure no vomiting, and then lifted him in the air to make sure he kicked his legs (he said if he didnt move his legs while in the air could be a sign of concussion). Everything was just fine.

thank you god, and I do believe angels or spirits watch over him all the time.

    Hi the worst day ever

I was getting ready to put my 4 month old baby to sleep upstairs until she droped her paci. So I grabbed the paci and held my baby headed down stairs to the kitchen to rinse it . Unfortunately in our way I slipped and missed the last step and here goes my precious baby dropped on the carpet. My heart dropped and I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to die right and then. I felt like a horrible mom. I just looked at her and screamed before I picked her up She looked at me seemed ok but got startled by my scream and screamed and cried for a good two min. Lluckily her grandmom’s and dad took over. I was a mess they were comforting me I don’t know how I can never forgive myself. I am monitoring he. Now she is her normal self but I am a total wreck

God is watching over our babies.

  96. Doris

My girl was hanging out with me on the bed while I was replying to an email on my laptop, and in just a few seconds, she creeped to the other side and fell off the bed. I screamed like I never screamed before and my husband came running. She had little red marks on the right side of her face, like the bruises she had when she was born, and I just cried, felt guilty, apologized, and held her. Finally, I gave her to my husband because my panic was freaking her out more than the fall itself. I went into the spare bedroom and spent some time by myself.

Previously, if someone let their baby fall off the bed I would have called them negligent, uncaring parents. But I realize now, if you have a baby, this can happen to you. It takes only a second with a mobile baby. They cover a lot of ground with those rolls. Just remember, we’re all loving moms, but we’re not gods. We do things wrong. We never mean to hurt our babies. We take care of them 24 hours a day. And when they do fall (even when it’s our fault if you feel the need to place blame) they still want us first to make them feel better. What is the alternative? They are going to hurt themselves, no matter what. My husband crawled out of his crib as a baby and fell constantly. But there was nothing else his mother could do. She couldn’t let him roam free throughout the house at night.

If we keep thinking of ourselves as bad mothers, etc., it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The one mother that said that these falls are harder on us than they are on the babies is RIGHT. MY girl was ready to do it again today… she is fine. Of course if there is bleeding or the baby is lethargic, you have to call the advice nurse. But even if baby is hurt, you have to realize that you would never hurt that baby.

They’re babies. They have a lot to learn, and we’re here to guide them, protect them, and comfort them when they need us. Beating yourself up constantly about things like this will not help baby, and it definitely won’t help you. To your baby, you will always be the best mother in the world. Remember that.

All this said, if your baby keeps falling off the bed like the one mother said, 5 times a month and the grandma that complained, you need to fix that or rearrange the bed so it stops happening. Take fascinating object out of baby’s sight if she can’t help but go for them. I’m no doctor but repeated head traumas are not ok.

  97. Pam

My 8 month baby fell off from the sofa and hit his head onto the coffee table and landed straight to the floor. He was crying for 2 min. Now,he is happy and back to normal. Many parents I know had similar experience but I thought I would be more alert. I guess this can happen to any parent raising babies.

  98. Emilie

My darling 8 mo. old girl and I had been napping, when I decided to get up and pick up the house a little. I left her with mountains of pillows on both sides of the bed and kept the house quiet to hear when she woke up (she normally wakes up crying). Five minutes later, I hear a loud THUMP followed by intense cries and MY HEART DROPPED. I ran to the room to find her on the floor with her head down. In the midst of my panic, I managed to console her and inspect her head and body. Once the crying stopped and she went back to acting like normal herself, I BEGAN TO SOB. I felt like such a terrible mother. The person who should protect her the most, let her down so bad… The guilt didn’t allow me to sleep and has caused uncontrollable crying and headaches.

  99. Carol

I feel soooo bad. I heard this big puff followed by her cry. I ran sliding through the floor almost falling to find her on the floor laying on her back. I freaked out and worried about a concussion. After making a quick search, I realised it wasn’t that bad because she acted just fine right after it. I made sure I observed her for a while. Ouf! Motherhood is challenging. She won’t smell my bed again, that’s for sure. God bless her and all the babies of the world.

  100. Stephanie

    Oh god

My son fell from bed yesterday too, rang NHS direct then took him to A&E spent 2 hours in A&E and they give him the all clear after checking his eyes, ears and skull. He was giggling and laughing at the doctors in A&E. Funny really a friend of mine told me that this happened to her and I thought to myself oh shes a bad mom but now it has happened to me I realise what a common incident it is and that it happens quite a lot. So feeling a lot less bad now but still can’t help but worry and keep rerunning the incident through my mind even did a demonstration to show my husband what happened and even though I didn’t hit the carpet floor it still hurt.. Are babies’ skulls more softer and does it hurt them less than adults as adults skulls are harder and they

feel more pain as I believe babies are more flexible and more bouncier due to their developing bones. Any opinion on this please…

  101. Jessica

Today as I had turned my back just to take my car keys and closing the wardrobe, I saw in the mirror my 7 mnth old daughter rolling from the bed… I had lesser than a fraction of a second to hold her, couldn’t hold her back :-(

I am feeling so so so terribly guilty that I am unable to eat or drink anything .. This is the first time I have let this happen and have made sure that henceforth I’ll take all the safety measures to keep my little angel safe from any such accidents..

  102. Maggie

Yes worry a lot. Worry that he is not damaged, don`t let him go to sleep straight away…..watch for sleepiness and droopiness.
But mostly worry that if the Child Protection Services get hold of the story, they will take your baby into foster care. Get you criminalized for neglect and get you 10 years in jail. And your baby adopted by complete strangers…..so especially worry and make sure it never happens again. Because the facist state is watching us. The CPS get loads of money for adoptions and want to break up families, if they break families they break societies.

    1. Paula @ easybabylife

      Maggie,

What happened to you and your child? From your comment, it seems like you’ve gone through a really bad experience. Did you lose your child?

I would say in the vast majority of all cases; a parent does not lose a child because the baby fell. There must have been some special circumstances? If you want to share, please go ahead.

      Paula

I lull my brother’s baby to sleep in her swing and after awhile, he slept soundly. I left her in the room for a while so I can cook for supper when suddenly I heard a baby cry coming from the room.. I felt so terrified when I saw her with her tummy on the floor. I can’t forgive myself.. I don’t exactly know if she hit her head or what but she had a reddened area in her left cheek that eventually gone after a while.

She returned to her normal activity and began playing again.. but 12 hours later, she vomited small amount of milk. She has a clear fluid from nose and sneezing. Help please.. her parents have flu and I don’t exactly know if that liquid is due to colds or CSF (I may exaggerate) but to be cautious only.. =(

  104. Esther

Our 8mo. old Princess is just the cutest lil’ person you’ve ever seen & this morning her perfect lil’ face met the side of our dresser while plunging off our bed. She woke up before us & made a quiet attempt to reach for her bottle on top of the dresser she took a tumble & hit her head in two different places including the bridge of her nose where a lil’ piece of her perfect nose was cut. I screamed frantically hoping I wasn’t really awake yet as my husband came running to her rescue. she cried for a few minutes & like all the other tough babies in these commentaries she was fine but of course her parents are not. Her smiles at least give us reassurance that God made babies tougher than their parents, she’s crawling, standing & eating as normal I hope this brings comfort to other parents, even if it just helps a little.

  105. Tammy

my baby fell off the couch flat on her face when i was talking to someone she started to cry so i gave her a pacifier and now shes asleep is she ok

  106. Naomi

I feel terrible!!! my 11 month old baby boy feel off the bed while i left him for just a few minutes while i went to make his bottle. he was already fussy because he was sleepy. i ran quickly to his side when i heard a loud bang followed by inconsolable crying. i quickly picked him up and apologized. i cried with him and i feel so guilty. he stopped crying and fell asleep soon after he finished his bottle. i called his pediatrician and she advised me to keep him awake and not let him sleep for a few hours. i woke him up and observed his behavior. he’s acting normal and smiling and playing. no bruises or head bumps. never again will i leave him unattended.

  107. Lacey

OMG OMG im the worst mom ever to have let this happen. I feel terrible! I was lying down on the bed feeding her and i fell asleep. Next thing i know, i woke up by a big thump followed by crying. i jumped up and my heart was pounding to find her on the floor. The good thing is that it’s carpet however, we have a wooden bed frame that sticks out and the bed is close to the wall where theres a heater. So she fell in between the bed frame and heater that’s attached to the wall on the ground. I had put a pillow on the edge of the bed but she managed to bypass it. I can’t believe i underestimated her abilities. I quickly picked her up and held her really close to me and kept apologizing to her. We checked for injuries and found a red mark on her forehead which is probably from either the heater or the bed frame. She didnt cry for long after the fall and seems to be acting ok but i’m sooo worried. I really hope shes ok and nothing inside her is damaged. She played with her toys a little bit and i fed her again and now shes asleep on my lap. Oh i’m just a horrible mother. I will never be able to forgive myself for this one… :'(

  108. Worst Mom Ever

I feel like the worst mom here, I had my 6 month old son in his Bumbo seat on the counter (about 4-4.5 feet) I normally have him here and hell try and move and get out of it he’ll ever try and throw himself back in his seat and the seat wont move, so I didn’t have a problem leaving him on the counter while I was 2 feet away making his bowl of cereal. I was measuring out the milk so my eyes were off him for just a few seconds and next thing I hear is a thud. I see him on the floor with the seat next to him, I rush over and pick him up, he cried for what seemed like forever, I felt so bad and I kept saying I’m sorry I’m sorry and was trying not to cry with him. Well what seemed to be about 10-15 minutes now that I look back at it my boyfriend and I took him to the ER, he was seen by I think 3 doctors and had to explain what happened I felt so bad and was crying all I can see this thinking is I’m a bad mom and their going to take my beautiful son away from me, he is fine, I just need to watch for diulated eyes, vomiting, and wake him ever few hours for 48hr and then go back to a normal routine. I still worry that something is wrong as he’s a baby and can’t say what hurts or what doesn’t. but the doctors did say he was ok and it was good to bring him in. I still feel bad about the fall and I’m just beating myself up over it, never leave him alone in it again especieal if it is on a raised surface. I’m still worried I’m going t have CPS (Child Protective Services) at my door. But he is safe and still has a check up with his primmary at the end of this week, not because of the fall but for his 6 month appointment, I will let her know what happened so she can do a extra look over at him. Other than that always be on the safe side and take your baby to the ER, I know it’s scary and just the thought of what they may think of you is not going to be as bad as if you didn’t take your baby in.

  109. first time mom

I am so thankful for this comment page. My daughter, who is 5 months old, scooted off the bed this afternoon, landed face first (from what we can tell) onto berber carpet. She immediately stopped crying, starting smiling, laughing, etc. We checked her eyes with a flashlight and she responded perfectly.

Being a first time mother however, I was so grateful to have my husbands mother there to know what to do. My daughter then was very active all afternoon. Then I thought I noticed a slight dent in her head, but couldn’t tell if it was her soft spot that I had just never paid attention to. I was so frazzled that I couldn’t help but call the pediatrician again (I called after she fell) to make sure.

Because I wasn’t clear on whether it was new or not (there was no bruise, scratch or redness), she suggested taking her to the Emergency room just to be sure. Then in the madness of it all, while at the Emergency room, after seeing three nurses who all said she was perfectly fine – my husband and I couldn’t wait anymore – our nerves were on edge for different reasons. Mainly, the baby was so tired and hadn’t taken two of her normal afternoon naps (we were told not to let her go to sleep until as late as possible) and it was almost passed that time too. I hadn’t eaten all day – I was a mess. So we left. Reason being that the whole time she was laughing, smiling, happy, etc, etc – just tired towards the end.

When we left I felt utterly guilty and started crying the whole way home. She fell asleep on the way home, woke up when we got home, interacted some more – another bottle feeding and off to sleep. I’ve been holding her hand for two hours now and she’s making normal movements and breathing fine. I thought I was the worst mother on earth until I read this page. Thank you for posting. I am taking her to the Pediatrician Monday just to get final closure on the whole thing. But I just needed this assurance and no one can give that to you – but this certainly helped so much.

I too have suffered from baby boy (7 months) falling off of the bed just this morning. I can’t observe him because he is at the babysitters but I did tell her what happened and told her to watch him. I hope that is enough. Should I call her and make sure nothing is wrong?

    Hi everyone,

I can’t express how relieved I am to have found this site!!! My daughter (who’s 8 months old today) rolled off the bed for the first time a few days ago, I’m still so upset about it – I’m furious with myself as it was all my fault, I know she can roll, but we both fell asleep together – thank goodness she is fine!!! – but it doesn’t stop me from feeling a terrible Mummy :-(… I will never ever let it happen again!! I felt so ashamed :-( XX

  115. Simone

My 6 month old fell off the couch once when he was 5 months old while my husband was preoccupied with something else and now yesterday he fell off of our bed…about 4 feet! He was surrounded by pillows but rolled right over them! I cannot forgive myself. He cried for a minute and then was smiling, cooing, and playing. No bumps or bruises, thank god! I am never going to be able to forgive myself! I’m glad I’m not the only mom this has happened to!

  117. Mariia

Hi there. I have a 6 month old daughter. Two nights ago I fell asleep while breastfeeding my daughter. She normally falls asleep with me but this time she didn’t. Next thing I know my baby is screaming bloody murder and I look and realize she’s not next to me but on the floor underneath her crib. Her crib was right next to the bed so I don’t know how she fell btwn the bed and crib. I dont know what she hit. I checked everything and didn’t see any bumps bruises or red spots. I keep checking her every couple of hrs and am so heart broken that I let this happen. I feel so stupid and feel like I am such a horrible mom. I don’t know what to do it has me feeling so low an depressed. How could I fall asleep and not hear my baby awake about to roll off the bed. I feel like a failure. She seems fine but I’m going to make a doctors appt bc I can’t let go that there might be something wrong. I just feel awful and all I do is cry and constantly hold my baby telling her how sorry I am and that I don’t know what I would do if anything happened to her. Am I bad mom for not waking up? Shouldn’t of I hear her. I work full time nights so I can be home duing the day with her. I should of heard her and I can’t forgive myself. I don’t know what to do. Any advice? All I have been doing is crying and feeling like I’m the worst mom ever!

  118. Christal

Last night my 3 month old baby was fussy so I let him sleep in between me and my husband. Well ever since being pregnant my arms and legs go numb when I sleep on one side too long so when I roll over, I rolled him over to the other side with me. Well I hear this “thump” and then loud cries and so I jumped out of bed to find my baby boy laying on his stomach with his hands covering his face. My heart almost jumped out of my chest but when

I picked him up he instantly stopped crying and was acting fine. I checked his arms and legs and his face for any signs of broken bones or bruising which didn’t seem to bother him and checked his eyes to make sure he was still following me from side to side. He ate a bottle and went right back to sleep and was fine when we woke up this morning =) cooing and laughing at me when I would talk to him. I’m still going to monitor him and make sure there is no vomiting or difference in how he is acting but other than that, he seems fine!!! It definitely scares you to death and you feel like a horrible mom but it happens to a lot of people.

my 15 month old daughter feell off the bed… I was so miserable…but reading all the messages in this site has somewhat helped me to overcome such trauma

  120. Sarah

My baby has fallen off the bed 3 times…

Ever since my little one fell of the bed the first time I feel so miserable… since I can’t get over the first fall, and it keeps on happening. Am I crazy? Maybe. Why would I on earth leave her on 2 feet bed by herself? Funny thing is we all know the consequences but we just let it go…I did take her to doctor when she falls, doc says, oh, she is just fine. But I’m concern about her future… don’t these falls to affect her letter in life? That’s my biggest concern… she is doing fine now, it’s just I’m really concerned… gosh, I hate myself so much of being a lousy mom… sometimes I wish I was never being mom… I hate myself so much…

    All,

First I would like to thank each and everyone of your for the first “Nothing to Worry” postings. Me and my wife were terrified since last night after out daughter slipped off the bed. She was fast asleep and was laid in the far corner of the bed adjacent wall. It is still a mystery how she managed to come to the edge of the bed and slipped. Thankfully, in the morning she was normal (feeding well, eating well, playing normal as usual). I booked an ad-hoc appointment with my paediatrician today and took her for a check-up to double confirm. The doc studied her and said she is all fine and nothing to worry. Just back from hospital and she is doing fine now. Does anyone wonder what I am going to do next? – Simple, dismantle the cot and lay the bed on the floor until my little one grows. Thanks to everyone once again and initially when I entered this forum I was relieved to see that we were not alone in the world :) Good luck and take care of your babies. May God be with every kid.

My five-month-old daughter fell off the bed just a few hrs. back. Though I left her on the bed surrounded by enough pillows and cushions, yet she managed to sidekick them and finally rolling over she reached the edge.

    BANG!!

The noise and her loud cries made me immediately run to her. My heart skipped a beat when I saw her lying on the floor. I just pulled myself together and checked her thoroughly for any bruises or bleeding. Thankfully, there was none. Within mins, she was back to her usual self. No signs of ab normalcy to get worried.

I guess it is all a part of growing up years. That’s how we all have grown up, haven’t we?

I just have one thing to say to everyone, just stay composed and observe your child closely for any unusual indication.
I can never thank my stars enough to have behaved favorably!!

    God Bless our dear babies…

  123. Upset mom

My five month old fell off the bed a few hours ago…I was a wreck! I took him to a walk in clinic as the nurse hotline advised me to do and the doctor checked him out by checking his eyes, ears, throat, and feeling his skull. He said he was fine.

Five minutes after the fall he was drinking milk and interested in things around him. Not a fun thing to have happen at all. How he got from the middle of the bed to off the edge in a millisecond…I’m still a wreck.

The doctor said it’s often worse on the parent than the child…I’m still so upset about it!

  124. Onigster

This is what my pediatrician told me exactly; check if baby is sleepy and vomiting. Otherwise if he/she acts normal again after some time, no need to panic.

My 9mo baby boy fell off the bed for the second time now. And I still can’t help but worry and panic. After 5 mins of crying… he’s back at it again wrestling with his toys.

Clarisse is most probably right… guardian angels our watching our babies. And I am thankful.

  125. Baby OK?

I was breastfeeding my 4-month-old baby when we fell asleep. Then I heard a crying and woke up! My baby fell off the bed and hit her head on the rail of the bed. I’m just worried that she may be bleeding inside her head. What should I do?!

  126. Clarisse

I was also worried when my 6-month baby fell from our bed. I left him sleeping with pillows surrounding him then suddenly I heard “blog!” and followed by loud cries. I observed him for 24 hours. Thank God because he acted normally as if there’s nothing happened. I guess his angels protected him too from the fall.

  127. Ann

I feel a lot better now after I read other people’s comments. Thank you

  128. yummymama

My almost 5 months baby fell off the bed this morning, she is so active I sometimes can’t keep up, I was woken up by a loud cry and after picking her up from the floor I felt like a stupid undeserving mom. She cried for a few minutes, I observed her, she seems ok, she’s eating. I’m at work and I can’t concentrate I think I should just go see her. Thanks for all your comments, I feel better

  129. Liz

Just an hour ago, my 6-month-old baby too fell off the bed. It felt terrible to let that happen to my little baby. We also surrounded him with pillows and etc. I was looking at the computer for a minute then I heard this loud sound. I worried like anything. He cried for a minute and then became normal. He seems to be behaving fine but needs to see for a day or two to see any different/abnormal behavior. Thanks all for sharing your feelings/experience.

My 8 month old son, has fallen out of our bed 5 times. The last time I was asleep and my husband got up out of the bed in the middle of the night and didn’t tell me to watch for our son… all of a sudden he came running into the room as I was telling my son (while I am still half sleep) to be quiet because he was crying, not knowing the reason he was crying was because we was on the floor. My husband tried to blame it on me, when in reality if he would’ve told me that he was getting up to do something, I would’ve pulled my son closer and/or gotten up till he got back in the bed. I wonder how many times can a baby fall out of the bed and still be okay?

    1. Mommy Maya

“I wonder how many times can a baby fall out of the bed and still be okay?”

My baby fell off the bed one time while I was there on the bed with her, since that day I never put her on my bed ever again accident can happens anytime but if it’ll happen more than ones or twice it’ll be hard to consider it as an accident anymore.. Sorry but this is one of the reasons why co-sleeping with an infant is not advisable. Maybe wait till the baby gets older for co-sleeping but for now sounds like you need to put your baby in a safe place for him to sleep in, please do not wait until something bad happens to your baby before you do something. In my own opinion letting baby fall off the bed 5 times is not acceptable, my baby fell off the bed when she was 7 months that was 5 months ago and until now I still feel guilty about it.

  131. Jen

My baby is 7 months old and he fell off from bed for the second time. I am just not able to forgive myself for being the reason for my little one to cry. My baby is fine and is behaving normally. I thank God from bottom of my heart.

  132. Sadie

I was holding my 8 month old baby while I was sitting on the couch. He was leading over and reaching for something on the floor. I tried to pull him back but before I knew it his tiny foot that I had kept a grip on slipped out of my hand. He fell off the couch and head first onto the hard floor. He cried and I picked him up immediately. I felt my heart sank and wanted to cry with him. I hated myself and felt like a horrible mother. I am monitoring his behavior. If anything abnormal transpires I will take him to the hospital. I am in fear that the hospital will think I am a bad Mother and take him away from me.

My little cousin just fell off the bed about two minutes ago and she hasn’t shown any signs yet but how long does it usually take for warning signs to show?

  134. Linn

My 7-month-old also fell off the bed… :-( She was lying down right in front of me…but I was too busy playing a game with my husband and wasn’t paying attention. I feel like such a horrible mother. It was only a 2 ft drop onto carpeted floor but I got so scared. And my husband didn’t help the situation. I’ve sworn off game systems. She was back to her usual self within a few minutes… But I still feel really bad

My 6 months baby fell down from bed just 10 min before. I was so worried when he fell down. He cried for 2 min after that he started laughing . Thanks for sharing such kind of things. It’s very helpful. My baby is playing well and he is doing well.

Guys, please help me I’m a single mom and I live with my parents, I don’t know what to do I can’t even tell my parents about what happened coz I’m sure they’ll going to kill me if they found out about this, my 7 mos old baby fell on the floor while we were both sleeping, I suddenly heard a boom and when I looked beside me I did not saw my baby that’s when I hurriedly looked down and saw my baby on the floor with her head facing the floor. I was shocked and tried to comfort her, there was blood on her lips and inside her mouth. Her upper lips got bigger because it popped and there are some wounds. She cried for a minute and then after that I gave her milk and now she’s back to sleep. I can’t even tell my parents about what happened. please let me know what I should do. I’m also worried if this thing can affect her brain maybe not now but when she grew up. Should I really panic about what happened? Guys, pls help me!

    1. Deborah

My 9-month-old fell off my bed this morning which is probably about 3 ft high onto hardwood floors and while falling hit his forehead on an iron leg of my night stand! I was hysterical and my husband calmed the situation down! I hadn’t heard my little one cry like that since the day he was born. I wasn’t taking any chances and we went straight to the ER. They checked him out as a previous person posted. Temp, blood pressure, ears and nose. He was pretty much back to himself. They so no need to do a head scan, but gave him Motrin for the pain, as he has a huge bump on his forehead. I was told to monitor him for 48 hours and watch for any unusual behavior or vomiting or him being lethargic I was also told its ok for him to fall asleep but to wake him up during the night a few times to make sure he is ok. I am still crying over it and feeling terrible, but realizing that these things do happen.

Babies are resilient and I wish you all the best. However, you can never play doctor to your baby, and you might have to just get over the fact of what your parents might say and focus on your little one’s health. As she maybe just fine, I myself as a mother would never take the chance!

  137. Sandy

She just turned 3 months. She fell asleep on our bed so I put her in the middle of it. We have a king-sized bed. Went in the living room for a while. Like literally 30 seconds before I was going back in the room I hear a thump and loud cries. I run in the room and my baby is laying on the floor arms and legs spread out. I was so scared. She stopped crying after a few min then drank a bottle. Now she’s sleeping. But it is almost 1 in the morning. I believe she’s ok. I have her between me and my fiancé but I’m scared to go to sleep. I don’t think I’ll ever let her out of my sight again! I’m going to start letting her sleep in her crib.

  138. Tilly

My 6-month-old daughter just rolled off the bed today. I was getting ready for school and she has just started to learn how to scoot herself around. She was reaching for something and all of a sudden BAM! I grabbed her so quickly and started crying. I felt like a horrible mom :(. I saw her fall and it keeps replaying in my head. She has been a little cranky but other than that she seems fine. Except for a small bump on her head. I’m so worried she will have brain damage. Can a fall like that cause those problems?

  139. Concerned grandmother

My son and daughter in law continuously let their baby 8mos. old fall off the bed. He is crawling now but for some reason, they think that putting a pillow around him will prevent him from falling. On any given day when they have them in their care he falls 3-4 times a day and then at night 2-3 times. I can’t stress to them enough to keep him on the floor what can I do? To me this is child abuse once or twice is an accident but repeatedly for the last 2 mos. Can’t he suffer brain damage??? Help!!

    Hi,

My 6 months baby fell off the bed right after I changed his diaper. I turned away in a split second to throw the dirty diaper into the trash when I saw him rolling over and fell off the bed. I felt my heart sank. I picked him up right away. He cried for about a minute, then stopped. I called the nurse hotline and I was told it was a very common situation. She told me what to look for & watch him for the next 24 to 48 hours. Also to check every 2 hours after the fall to ensure the baby is alert. He was happy after 5 minutes & was laughing & playing with his toys. I felt so guilty. I felt like a bad mother. But the nurse told me this happen quite often. The important thing is to monitor the baby’s actions to ensure there is no abnormalities.

Hi, my baby is 8 months and felt from the cot (2m high). He was crying and then came normal. After a few minutes, he slept and woke up after 2 hours. Then he passed motion very loose, just like water. He normally passed motion early morning, not at the mid. Is it an impact of falling? I am very worried. Someone reply to me.

  142. Paula @easybabylife

    Hi Caitlin,
If your daughter is hard to wake up, you should take her to a doctor immediately! She might just be exhausted from crying, but you need to rule out concussion. She is probably fine, but don’t take any chances! Let me know how things go!

  143. hajara

I and my husband were worried a lot as it was the first time fell on the forehead. You can try the following first-aid if there is no serious injury or bleeding.

    1) Keep the ice pack or cold gel pack on the swollen head

    2) Apply china clay/namakatti

If you see any unusual behavior vomiting, dizziness, unusual breath pattern, please take to the doctor ASAP.

  144. first time mommy

After reading all the comments, I realized my story is the scariest. On the day my baby girl 3 months she rolled out of her basket that was on the table and fell her face down on the floor. Do you imagine how that would hurt if an adult fell off the table face down??? And that was my tiny baby. it was so scary to see her on the floor. there was a moment of silence, my heart dropped dead… and then she started crying… she was in my arms and I tried to soothe her, give her a breast, anything to make her feel better.. But to my terror she was not crying normal… she was kind of out of breath and seemed to be losing consciousness while crying… her crying was weak…

We rushed to the hospital of course, she slept on the way and woke up normal. Doctor told us to watch for signs during the next 48 hours. There was nothing abnormal except for a soft spot on her skull. Doctor told us the blood pooled there between the skull and the skin. Right now our daughter is almost 8 months and is the healthiest baby ever that soft spot disappeared within a week or so and we had no other signs of her fall. But that time is the scariest time of my life. Please, never put baby baskets on the tables!! Even if you think you baby does not know how to roll yet…

My baby fell down from bed, and there was no carpet below, its just 6 hrs it happened, however as per your experiences, I tried to recollect her actions, she is behaving normal, No bruises or swelling is seen.

    Thanks for your suggestions!!

    Hi,
I found my 14month old boy on the floor facing down on his forehead and his hands …he fell down from the highchair…concerned parents? Is there anything we should do…? SHOULD WE CHECK FOR ANY SIGNS? SHOULD WE TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL FOR X-RAYS? THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE IN ADVANCE!

    1. Kate

When my 7 months old baby off fell off the bed, even though she seemed fine and back to her old happy self a minute after the accident, I still called my pedia, she told me to watch for any unusual behaviors like change in their appetite, temperature and any other unusual signs and the worst scenario, vomiting. The best to do is call your doctor, hope this will help

  147. Concerned Mum

My 10mo boy fell off from the bed for the second time this month! His first bruise is still recovering, I think it was all my faults. He fell last time when he was asleep. When I heard of his cries I only realize that he was already on the floor. My heart is still pain. He was crying for about a minute then he went sleeping again. I’ve checked thoroughly, there is no bruise except the previous one on the forehead. I feel so bad…still

  148. Liz

My baby fell off the bed at 7 months I was right there with her I just turn my back for a second and she rolled over and fell off 3-feet bed I felt so bad felt so guilty but I thank GOD she was fine. I felt better reading all comments here, thanks mommies!

  149. me

Hi! I did not expect him to roll over so quickly, within 2 seconds I just look over my shoulder and see my bubby hanging on the edge of the bed, it was too late to grab him so he falls down onto his back and head. It was terrifying to watch him and not be able to do anything. He was crying for 2 minutes and then he was ok, behaving as normal. But I could not even breathe and wanted to run to the hospital, but I thought maybe I will observe him for several hours and see if he is ok.

He didn’t have any bruises or nothing, but still, I was worried he might have an internal injury. We were bathing, feeding and playing a bit and J. seemed to be perfectly OK but I still cannot sleep and I go to his cot to check him every 5 minutes to see if he is sleeping. Feel very guilty! I am still thinking of waking him up and going to the hospital. 🙁

  150. guiltymommy

    Hi moms,
He was sleeping. My phone rang, I ran downstairs to get the phone then suddenly I hear a thud. I ran back upstairs and saw that my boy fell 2 feet from my bed onto a hardwood floor. We quickly went to a major NYC medical center and after 3 doctors saw him they said that he was OK, only a couple of bruises. At the hospital, he was smiling and laughing at all the nurses…Ahh, I knew he was his usual self. Back home he was playing with all his toys again!

Never leave your child unattended anywhere surrounding him with pillows or blankets won’t help…he has to learn to sleep in his own crib!

I feel terrible!! My 7 months old baby just fell off the bed hours ago, feel like I’m a bad mother I saw my daughter fell off the bed I was just right there next to her, just turn my back on her for just second and the next second I saw her fall off the bed I was a millisecond away from catching her, she cried for couple min I was crying with her and apologizing at the same time I felt so bad and guilty, the bed is a very dangerous place to put your baby in, I check her for any sign of injury thank

God, she seems just fine I put her on the floor when she stopped crying and she was just happy as she can be as if nothing happened but I am still so upset about what happened I will never ever even blink my eyes when she is on the bed with me.

  152. jewels

    Hi,
Yesterday morning I woke up to a thump and a loud cry. My 4-month-old had fallen on the on his front side on the floor. I was devastated! I can’t seem 2 get over it. I feel dead inside! I feel like a terrible mother!

He is fine, he is acting normal, smiling and making his baby noises but I still can’t help 2 think of the “what if’s” and I am tearing myself up inside. Every time he cries I panic saying, ” omg its cuz he fell!” I am driving my husband nuts! Haha…

I feel better seeing I am no so alone in this department but can anyone reassure me that he is fine? Like yeah no symptoms so y r u worried? I would also like 2 add I am a hypochondriac! Haha.
    Thanks!

  153. Leila

I was on the phone in the other room and had put her right in the middle of the bed, she just started rolling a few days ago…I don’t know how but all I heard was my sweet baby cry… I ran and dropped the phone in the middle of my conversation… poor thing was on the ground… I felt so guilty! I literally rolled off my bed to fall myself! To feel her pain…but I know hers was much worse!! I hope that never happens again… I cried soo much, apologizing every second!! But she was fine like 5 mins later acting as nothing happened… I guess we just need to take a breath and relax this is just the beginning of the many things to come! DON’T PANIC!! Just keep a good eye on them, they will be fine.

  154. Linn

I turned by back for a split second to turn on a lamp next to the bed and I heard a thump, followed by a loud cry! OMG I felt so bad & like a bad mom =0(, I cried with her and apologized nonstop to her. I checked out her head & limbs and saw no red marks, broken bones or bleeding and was relieved to see she was probably more scared than anything.

I observed her for 24 hours checking on her every hour throughout the night & in the morning she seemed not to even remember what had happened, she was happy, playful and eating well. I was so relieved to see her OK. It is a very scary thing to have happened. I will never leave her on the bed for even 1 second now, I guess we live and learn as Moms.

My baby girl fell off our bed 3 times on the floor . when she was just 2months we fell asleep together not knowing that i’m not already holding her that tight i’m so scared that time because her head might be injured and no one knows about it cuz i’m scared that they might get angry with me . when she was 5months old she knows how to roll already . then the second time she fell is when she was 6months old . i put her in the middle of our king sized bed and go to the kitchen to put hot water in her dropper in just a second but suddenly i heard “thug” and my baby started crying i was nervous that night and still nobody knows about it except for my cousin .and now the third time she was 7months old turning 8months next week i put her in the bed with a pillow on her side . i turned my back just a second to get a clean clothe for her to wear not noticing that she rolled up to the other side down to the floor i was panic that time and that time my mother knew about it i was so stressed because she fell to the floor more than twice i feel so bad i feel like i’m the worst mom ever in the world . i dont know if she bumped her head on the floor but i think she did bumped her head because their still baby they cant prevent themselves from bumping their head . please i need help what should i do ? We cant go to the doctor to check her up because we dont have money . but i want to assure the health of my baby there’s so many “what ifs” in my head . what if she’s okay now but in the future she will get sick i dont want that i cant watch my baby getting sick i know its my fault but it was just an accident please i need your help what should i do ?

    1. Paula @easybabylife

Hi Mekayla, your daughter seems to be an active little girl, and as such from now on simply don’t ever leave her without supervision at ny height at all. How is your daughter doing now? Have you read and checked her for the warnings signs in this article? Most of the times, a baby will not be hurt in any major way by a fall, but injuries certainly can happen! If she is her normal self, relax and just make sure she doesn’t fall again. If you see any warning signs, please find a way to have her examined. I know if must be so hard if you can’t afford a doctor’s visit, but as a start, do you know any nurse or have anyone in your social network that can help you? Head injury needs to be taken very seriously.

But if you daughter is acting completely normal now, she will not get sick in the future from these falls.

Over the year to come, she will get more and more on the move and more independent. To prevent new injuries, don’t take any chances at all regarding where you put her down. Put a mattress on the floor and have her sleep there if necessary. Also never leave her in a high chair, changing table, near any stairs, tables, sofas and so on!

I hope your daguhter is fine, please let me know!

This happened awhile ago but thought I would post this to calm some freaked out mommies. So I was in the living room of my old house with my roommate watching tv and I was holding my two month old son (I have three boys) wrapped in a blanket when I got up to use the bathroom I set him down on the couch in the corner section (it was an L shaped couch) assuming if he was in any danger in the 30 sec it took to pee that she would be watching. I guess she had gotten up to grab a snack or something and her toddler daughter must have liked his blanket cuz from what I gathered she just walked over to him, grabbed it and pulled and my son rolled out of the blanket and on to the ALL TILE FLOOR!!!!!! I was screaming and crying and panicking and I have never wanted to drop kick a toddler so bad in my life but luckily for her all I could focus on was my fragile little baby and my roommate was looking at me like why would you leave him on the couch?? but I was like why aren’t you whoopin ur stupid kid?? Luckily my little man is tough and is almost 16 months old now. We live with my kids’ father now in a CARPETED apt thank goodness but accidents happen and healthy babies are tougher than we think . It is normal to feel bad but don’t beat urself up over it just think of it as practice for your future especially if you have boys,. <3

My 6 months baby fell off the bed I was breastfeeding him and both fell asleep and suddenly I heard hum crying I got up and I found him on the floor on his tummy crying I picked him up right away and try to soothe him. He seemed doing fine after that i checked his head and body thank god I found nothing abnormal or even red spots. So my husband decided to take the frame out of the bed and put the matress on the floor to prevent him from falling again… God bless our babies…

    1. yam

Same thing happened with my 6 month old. I fell asleep when breastfeeding him. Then my husband woke up, found him on the floor with his tummy. He was not crying. Checked him, no bruises or any abnormality
Good thing our mattress is on the floor when he fell but im still worried.
