baby in a hurry birth storyPin

The nurse rushed me to L&D and I yelled at the lady at the desk who tried to get us to stop for paperwork, they did not understand that if we didn’t get to a room now I was going to give birth in the hallway.

My Birth Story – My Baby Was In a Hurry!

I woke up on June 5th around 11 pm after only 3 hours of sleep from discomfort. It was no worse than the past couple of weeks being pregnant so I thought nothing of it and tried to get back to sleep.

After trying to sleep for about an hour unsuccessfully I decided to wake my husband and see what he thought we should do. I am pretty sure at this point I knew what was going on but was in some state of denial about it.

About 30 minutes later I was getting more uncomfortable and decided to take a bath to see if it would make things better. Still in denial, this was a bad choice.

I got out of the bath and gathered my bags, taking my time as my husband tried to rush me out the door. We finally made it to the car at about 3:15 with a 25-minute drive ahead of us. Still, the pain was nothing I couldn’t handle.

Then all of a sudden, action started! 10 minutes into the car ride there I could hardly see; the pain was so bad. Contractions were suddenly 1 to 2 minutes apart and STRONG. No longer in denial that I was in labor, I now worried we would not make it to the hospital.

We pulled up in front of the ER at about 4:40 and right as the nurse got to the car with the wheelchair I felt a really strong contraction and then a huge gush of warm water. Right as I almost made it out of the car. I could barely make it out of the car to the wheelchair.

The nurse rushed me to L&D and I yelled at the lady at the desk who tried to get us to stop for paperwork, they did not understand that if we didn’t get to a room now I was going to give birth in the hallway.

We made it to the room finally and again I could barely move from the wheelchair to the bed while trying to put a gown on at the same time. Once I got to the bed they tried to find the baby’s heartbeat with an external monitor and could not. They quickly got an internal monitor in place and found that the baby’s heart rate was a little low. Luckily I was already completely dilated and the baby’s head was already almost out. With a few quick good pushes, he was out.

3:55, only 15 minutes after pulling up to the ER my beautiful baby boy was born.

They put him on my chest for what felt like only a second and then took him to get cleaned up. He started crying when they got him over to the table but I had to get some stitches and could not see him, all I remember saying over and over was “is he ok?” every time someone would reply that he was fine just a little startled.

Finally, all stitched up, they handed him back to me. He was perfectly healthy, the quick labor had just been a bit too much and he was fine now.

Without a doubt the best day of my life. He was worth every little drop of pain and discomfort and I would do it over in a heartbeat! :-)
