Why Won't My Baby's Cold Go Away?

My 7 1/2 month old son got his two top teeth a week ago, we blamed his runny nose and grumpiness on that, however, after a week and a half has past since that, he still seems to have a cold and nothing is helping him sleep... Any ideas?

My Baby's Cold Won't Go Away

Colds, or upper respiratory infections (URI) are one of the most common and contagious reasons of illness in infants and young children. They are caused by viral infections and do not need treatment with antibiotics. They usually last 7-14 days.
If your child has a stopped up nose, you may want to use saline nose drops. You can make these by adding ½ teaspoon of table salt to 1 cup of boiled water. After the solution has come to room temperature, put one drop in each nostril then suck with the 1 ounce rubber syringe (suction bulb). Do this before each feeding and at bed time. This will make it easier for the child to breathe. If He continues to have a runny nose or starts to cough then you need to take him to your pediatrician. He may have a sinus infection that won't clear up without antibiotics. You can have a sinus infection and not run a fever so sometimes they can be mistaken for a cold. I hope your little guy feels better soon.
