Advice differ!
by: Baby Help Line

Hi there!

Congratulations to your new baby! And wonderful that he or she sleeps so well!

Unless your baby is a preemie, you shouldn't need to wake him up. I guess (s)he has gained some weight by since birth?

I know the advice by nurses and pediatricians is - or at least was - to wake up a newborn baby after 4 hours. Recently however, this advice is given more seldom unless infant is ill or a preemie (or very small).

In addition, your baby is already 1 month old...! Big boy or girl ;-)

You might want to double-check with your baby's health care provider, but most likley you could just relax and enjoy your baby's great sleeping habits.

Waking 4 week old baby
by: Anonymous

I was told that once your baby gains back their birth weight, it's ok to let them sleep. I was a little concerned because my four week old lil girl slept through the night last night (I gave her her last bottle at midnight, she fell right asleep and didn't wake up until 6:15am). I was happy because that meant I got a GREAT nights sleep but than I started reading some things on the internet that got me concerned. But the way I look at it, your baby knows when they are hungry. They will wake up if they need to eat.

Same advice
by: New mom

I double-checked with MayoClinic and they had the same advice: For babies that are not born premature there is no need to wake them up once they have gained back their birth weight.

Made me happy, because my daughter also sleeps for about 6 hours in a row. Cross my fingers that it continues...
