Vomiting And Lose Of Weight

by Preethi
(Bangalore)

I have seven month old girl baby. I am not able to take care of her because I go to work. I leave her with my mother who takes care until I come home . My mother feeds her formula milk and semi liquid food, but whatever she eats vomites at the same time and she is not increased her weight.

Could please help me; what is the measure to avoid from voimiting and how to increase baby weight?

Might be sick?
by: Baby Help Line

Hi Preethi!

If your girl is really vomitig, I think she might be sick. You need to have her visit a doctor, to check if she has some bacteria or similar.

If she is just spitting up a little bit now and then, she needs more food. Maybe your mother can try to feed her more often, or add a tea spoon of butter or oil for her formula a couple of times per day.

But again, my advice is to start with taking her to a doctor to rule out any illness or get appropriate medication.

Also discuss your daughter's weight with the doctor. Even if she is not gaining much weight, whether it is a problem or not depends a bit on how much he currently weighs. At 7 months old, some babies have become very active and tend to not gain as much weight. But a rule of thumb is that babies should at least not loose weight even if they are chubby.

I really wish you good luck!

Maybe Reflux
by: Kacie P

I wanted to ask you is your child vomitting with fever or without. Sometimes around that age if the child vomits, with no fever or sicly features it may be Reflux.

My daughter got that when she was that age. she would just vomit everyonce in a while. I was really worried and it was quite werid. So i took her to the doctor and got her tested.

Maybe you should bring her to the doctor and see what they say
Hope I helped...

Rule Out Sickness Then..
by: Lynda G

Hi Preethi,
This must be very distressing for you, you have my sympathies!

I would rule out sickness or other complications with a visit to the doctor. If all is well in that area, then perhaps limiting her amount at each feeding and feeding her more frequently.

My oldest grandson had a problem with feeding. He was unable to tell us when he was hungry or full. If we waited to long to feed him he ate too quickly and too much and vomited.

We ended up setting specific times for meals, and measuring his food. Once that certain amount of food was gone the meal was over. Though if he really wanted to eat more we sometimes let him have a little spoonful or two more. Sometimes it would come back up, other times it stayed down.

My oldest granddaughter had reflux at this exact age. After every feeding, the slightest movement would trigger her to vomit. It was awful. The doctor told us to let her sit upright for a while after each meal, either in her walker or in her highchair with toys. This would allow her meal to settle.

Hope this helps. :)
