Velcro Pumpkin and Elmo Costumes

My son Michael was a pumpkin when he was 9 months old. I bought his costume as a 12 month size. This way it wouldn't be tight and it wouldn't bother him. I also cut the seem in the back and made it velrco this way it would easier to get him in and out of. Things going over the head when a child is tired or cranky is no fun. Michael had no problem being the cute pumpkin.
The next year he was elmo. He really wanted to be elmo however I wasn't big on the costume design. I cut the front of the costume and added an extra piece of fabric so I could make it into a coat. The xtra piece of fabric when on the rght side that I sewed in. Then it velcroed to the left side. Then I made two spots for buttons to close the elmo costume in the front.
This made it so much easier when getting in and out of the car. Easier to put Michael into the carseat and to buckle him.
I also cut the Elmo head off the back of the costume and attached velcro. There would of been no way he could have worn this costume and be able to sit in the carseat with the way it came. Sometimes you have to cut and sew to make things work. It doesn't matter if you can't sew. Use hot glue, Velcro, Double sided tape. There are many things you can do to make a costume work wonders for your little baby. What's cute might not be so cute on them when they are crankie.
