Two Months With A Colicky Baby

by Evelyn
(Oceanside, CA)

When my daughter was just two weeks old she would cry and cry and cry. To the point that we had to take her to the hospital because we just didn’t know what to do. We never experienced any of this with our first daughter.

That is where to doctor told us she was colicky. They gave us gas drops to see if that would calm her down and to use the swaddle rap. Well we used the drops and they didn’t work. The swaddle rap was the best, and we discovered that our little one loved the water. It reminds them of being in the womb. So we put her to take a bath in her infant bath tub. That would usually calm her down. We also noticed that a change of environment will also calm her down. We would actually walk out to our balcony and she would calm down. Winter time in California is a bit cool so the temperature calmed her down.

I was very stressed out. When my youngest cried my oldest who was just two would get scared and she would start to cry. No one could sleep in the house. My husband and I took turns and our stress level was really high. I had to have a lot of "mommy time" that would last five minutes just to relax. But I knew it was eventually going to stop. It lasted two months off and on.

Now when one of my friends tells me that their baby is colicky I ask them if there is anything they need help with so they can maybe get some sleep.
