Too Much Liquid In His Diet?

My baby just turned a month old yesterday. For the last week or so I have noticed that his stools are really runny. Could he be getting too much liquid? Should I switch to a thickened formula (Enfamil A+ Thickened) or think about giving him baby cereal? I know I would have to talk to his doctor first but i'm just curious what your opinion is on starting the rice cereal early.

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi!

I've never heard of that too much liquid could cause diarrhea. Think about it - that's what breastfed babies only get...

Instead it sounds to me as an infection or possibly an intoleranse of some kind. (OR maybe just a normal variation.)

If I were you I'd consult your baby's doctor.

I wouldn't start early with rice cereal, mainly because the risk of your baby getting tummy pain.

Also, babies grow very fast in their first three months of living and really need breast milk or formula to get all the nutrition they need. Rice cereal can't match that.

Hope this is of some help!

I switched his formula from Similac Advance to a store brand (Presidents Choice)and it helped so much. He barely even spits up and he's even sleeping longer. AND it's more than half the price!
