This Isn't My Baby

For 8 months I imagined having this rosy cheeked infant and me the glowing new mother, right isn't that the way it should go.
Well somebody forgot to tell my baby.
From the moment she was born she wailed nonstop except when she was eating or sleeping. By around seven weeks sleep was hard to come by. She would fight it and stay up half the night and most of the day screaming her pretty head off. I had never seen such an angry baby. I cried, she cried, even our other daughter cried.
I talked to her doctor, who didn’t believe in colicky babies, I read all the books, tried all of the tricks. Nothing was a sure bet with our baby, sometimes onething would work, next time nothing would work. I did learn pretty quick that when I felt a break down coming on to lay her down and take a break myself.
Although nothing was a guarantee there were a few things that worked better than others. For example making a loud shhhhh sound in her ear or taking her for a walk outside. It was January so I would bundle her up real warm, but the cold didn’t seem to bother her.
She is still a fussy baby and I am not sure how long the colic lasted it seems like one big blur now and she is only six months. But you will make it through and be a better parent in the long run. Just remember to breath along the way!
