Temp Of 99.3 And Straining To Poo

My baby is six weeks old and has a temp of 99.3.

She has been fussy all day, she is eating well.

She had reflux and we are now giving her medications prescribed.

One of the side effects is constipation.

I have tried taking her temp to get her to go, what else can I do?

How often should I take her temp so that it doesn't spike with out me knowing?

Not really fever
by: Baby Help Line

Hi!

99.3 isn't really considered fever for a baby, unless you are very sure that this is higher than usual.

If it is fever, you should contact a doctor since your baby is so young. Younger than 2 months, they should not have fever at all without having a check-up.

But she might of course be fussy from constipation instead. Is she formula fed?

You can read about constipation symptoms and remedies here.

Good luck and congratulations to your little one!

fever and poo

Stop trying to take the baby's temp, just to make her poo. The pharmacy has glycerin suppositories for just this.
follow directions or ask the phamacist how to use them. If the baby is on iron fortified formula, along with the reflux medication, it may just be too much for her system. They are both constipating for the baby. ask your doctor if you can change to a non-iron formula for a period of time, until the problem clears up. You can still track the baby's temp. If you can afford it, buy an ear themometer. They run around $50 dollars. If not, simply put the thermometer in the baby's armpit. Add TWO degrees to the temp on the thermometer.
