Sore Breasts After Pregnancy

I had protected sex with my boyfriend; we used a condom and it didn't split. I did a pregnancy test and it was negative.

I'm only 9 weeks after I had my baby and I have sore breasts. Is this normal? Could I be pregnant again or am I just being paranoid?

I really don't want to be pregnant again already as I had a C-section and I want to let my body heal properly.

Not pregnant despite sore breasts
by: Paula (Baby Help Line)

Hi,

I can understand that your sore breasts are making you worried, but if you really just had protected sex once, then NO, you're not pregnant.

The reason your breasts are sore could actually be, though, that your menstrual cycle is on its way back. Do you ever get sore breasts before menstruation or in connection with ovulation?

Another possibility if you breastfeed, is that you are on your way to get mastitis. If that could be the case, read about mastitis here and how to deal with it.

It the soreness doesn't go away and you can't find any reasonable causes for it, or if you start feeling ill, call a doctor. And of course, if you think you might have had unprotected sex too, then do another pregnancy test in a couple of days.

Warm wishes,

Paula
