Solid Foods

by Anonymous

My son is 7 months old and I have been feeding him Gerber stage 2 baby food. I have only been sticking to the single fruits and vegetables (carrots, peas, apple sauce, pears, etc) but have seen all the stage 2 combination jars with two veggies in one or fruits with two fruits combined.

Is it o.k. for him to have those at this age? He has shown no sign of allergies with anything I have given him so far.

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi!

I see no reason why your son couldn't have combined fruits or vegetables. I think it is great that you started slowly and with simple tastes, but if he's interested, go ahead and let him try more "advanced foods". The only thing you should be careful with is of course to give him foods that are not good for his age, like honey, salt, spinach and some other things. But if you stick with stage 2 jars, you're safe!

If you boy likes trying different foods, consider cooking for him as well! Some babies love home made food, others hate it! You'll find some recipes that are appropriate for his age here. Tips on how to make baby food is found here.

And here is a list of foods to avoid for babies younger than 1 year.

Good luck!
