Sleepy And Hungry Baby

by Stephanie
(House Springs MO)

My son is about 6 months old. He wakes up every 2 hours for 2 hours during the day and only sleeps for 4 hours at a time at night. He is always hungry. He wakes up at 6 eats, 8 eats and then naps, wakes at 10 eats, eats at 12 and lays down.

Does this all day long. I breast feed. Am I not making enough? Should he be eating more solids? He gets one jar of food a day, like sweet potatoes or carrots, but the rest is breast milk.

Why is he sleeping so much and always hungry? It is like I can never sleep.

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi Stephanie!

I understand that your situation makes you tired. 6 months is a growth period and you son is probably working hard (without knowing) to increase the food supply.

Most likely if you endure the situation for a while, your milk supply will increase to meet his needs.

If he likes his solid foods and doesn't get constipated, you can also try to increase his intake of that, since it is of course much more filling.

Regarding the sleeping; babies are very different! Some really sleep a lot and still nap three or four times per day at the age of 6 months, while others have now settles at twice per day.

Hope this helps!
