Sleep Problems For My 10 Months Old

by Tricia
(Germany)

My baby is 10 months old, used to falling a sleep with me while breast feeding. Now I want him to learn to fall asleep by him self with out crying.

I manage it sometimes but the problem is that after 6 hours he wakes up when its the middle of the night and stays up for an hour and then falls asleep again.

What can I do to get him to sleep and stay asleep through the night? Thanks

A few ideas
by: Baby Help Line!

Hi Tricia!

I can relate very well to your desperation! All our kids did that in periods and it is a very common situation. But hard to endure!

The first thing to is what you are obviously already doing - teaching your baby to fall asleep without nursing.

You'll find several tips regarding that here

But if you feel that this is no longer a problem, other things you can do is to review her sleep schedule. It is not uncommon that the little darlings that stay awake at night, spend slightly too much of their days sleeping.

Being 10 months old, you can also strive for lots of activity, fresh air and day light in day time. Those are excellent ways to improve sleep. (Both for mom and baby.) Find some inspiration for baby activities here.

Finally, check out my tips for babies that wake up too early.

Hope this helps!

A dark room and a lot of fresh air to make baby stay asleep
by: Ann

Hi,

I know this is an old question, but I was going through the same thing with my 10 month old. Driving me crazy!
It wasn't until I made sure her room (which was actually our bedroom) was really, really dark at night and I also took her outside a lot more during the day, that she finally stopped waking up to stay awake at night.

So I guess it was combination of fresh air and complete darkness at night that helped her sleep better.

Hope it helps someone,

Ann
