Baby Help Line Response:
Hi!
You're facing one of the most common worries parents have; their child’s eating habits.
Is your baby growing as he/she should and does he seem overall healthy? If he does follow his growth curves, then you most probably shouldn't worry.
Babies' appetite and interest in eating can vary a lot over time and even between days. They can also have periods when they suddenly seem to dislike almost all foods. This can be tough as a parent, regardless of if your baby is chubby or skinny.
There are a few things I think you should do:
- Get an extra appointment with your child's health care provider to check that he or she is gaining weight properly. Most likely he is and you can stop worrying. I've done this from time to time with all my kids, and it is usually a great relief afterwards to just let go of all the worries.
- If you think your baby really eats too little, try offering healthy snacks between the meals. Is your baby into finger foods yet? At the age of 10 months, many babies love picking up pieces of all sorts of food and feed themselves.
- If your baby is not gaining weight as he should, also consider adding some extra fat to his food, for example an extra tea spoon of oil or butter with every meal.
