One piece pajama
by: Paula

Hi,

Your son sounds a lot like my youngest. Just didn't like diapers. My boy didn't take them off at night but everywhere (really everywhere) at daytime.

The good part; he was ready for potty training way earlier than our other kids.

Anyway - what happens if you dress him in a one piece pajama that prevents him from taking the diaper off? Or a sleep bag for toddlers, although at his age, most babies refuse a sleep bag if they are not used to it.

baby shakes head from side to side and also grabs and scratches at head.
by: nikki

my now 5 month has always scratched and grabbed at her head and thought this was a normal thing in some babies just do, but now she has started shaking her head at first we thought she was saying no when we were feeding her but now she does it when she is in a deep sleep or at times ver involuntary. She just recently at her well baby visit was doing it and it just seemed more like thrashing. The doctor attributed to her eszma but I dont think so, we use products that are free of things and constantly putting aqauphore and aveeno baby on her and that isnt it, i am going to get a second doctors intake but in my case this is not seem like its finding her movement at all its invlountary and agian when she is sleeping. Like to know if anyone else has similar experience this is my 6th child and none of them went through this.

3 1/2 week baby poops hard??
by: Anonymous

Hey,

I have a newborn, 3 1/2 weeks, I was breastfeeding for about two weeks, but switched him to enfamil, i found he got very constipated with this formula, so I switched him to goodstart(easy to digest) and yet he is still pooping hard. Like little round balls, He seems to poop hard but then have one or two soft poops. Im wondering if it is just because i switched foods so many times in such a short time that he is still adjusting to it, or if its something else. What should I do ???

Athira: You are so right!
by: Paula (Baby Help Line)

Hello Athira,

I usually encourage people to ask questions at the Baby Help Line rather than here, but your I just to answer yours!

Your gut feeling is completely right! All humans are not created equal, and there is nothing saying that a baby has to be chubby as long as she or he is growing, healthy and thriving. Very often, breastfed babies are very chubby while exclusively breastfed, and then start falling through the weight curves when starting with solid foods. And that is perfectly normal! Other babies tend to always be on the skinny side - it might be genes or that they are active and physically early developed. And that is just as normal!

So just keep breastfeeding. There are so many benefits of breast milk, particularly for the baby, but also for the mom, so it sounds crazy to me to start with formula if the breastfeeding works well and you want to continue with it.

If you'd ever wish to increase your milk supply, that can be done too - no need to use formula. Just breastfeed every second hour (well, a bit less often at night if your baby sleeps) around the clock for a day or two and your milk production will shoot up. But most often, this will happen automatically as the baby grows.

Warm wishes,

Paula

what should i do?
by: Athira

hi paula..

I really confuse of how to feed my baby..she's 9 weeks now..my mom in law keep pushing me to give her formula as an addition while I'm breastfeeding..

But the thing is I want it to be exclusively breastfeeding until she is about 4 months or luckily 6 months. Because I am willing and so happy to breastfeeding as much as i can.

She kept saying that my baby is look too skinny..but from what i know as long as the baby is gaining weight, have a firm skin, have a good muscle, playful and active that is mean she get enough supply and healthy.

So my question is..should i give her extra milk like my mum in law said, or should i stick in with my own breast milk?
please help me paula..

4 month old fussy
by: sjt

My usually calm 4 month old has turned irritable and fussy. I started solids after his 4 month appt. And have since quit. he is one week from 5 months and is ebf. The solids caused infrequent poops which seemed to cause discomfort. So i stopped this week.
He just started sleeping thru the night and now wakes crying very upset. He also raises cain before bed. He seems to be in pain. Is this due to the solids? I tried rice (wk 1) and pears (wk 2). Could it be teething. His gums dont look red or swollen.
I need help problem solving.

My baby girl is 6 months old. She doesn't feed formula. She's on breastfeeding and I've started solids for 3 weeks.
