Painfull Soft Stools

by Anonymous

I have a 2 month old son who seems to be very uncomfortable when passing wind and soft stools. He goes bright red in the face and cries a lot when trying.

We believed he had colic when he was 1 month but it only seemed to last a week at the most. We also thought it could be constipation but his stools have never been hard, he has been taking lactolouse off the doctor but have noticed no change at all.

Seems to be something else?? Please help????

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi!

I think the most likely explanation is that your son is having normal newborn problems to pass stools and gas. Tough enough!

Have you tried "colic massage"? Even if your baby doesn't have real colic, tummy massage can be of great help.

One of the moves you do is to undress your baby, rub your hands with some oil and stroke his tummy clockwise starting to the right just below his ribs and circle all the way down to the diaper area. Do the same thing with your other hand and then alternate 10 times.

After that, grab his legs and push his knees gently towards his tummy. Straighten his legs and then gently push them back to his belly again. This will help him release gas, so keep a diaper or a towel on him!

Good luck!
