My baby is 4 months old and has suffered from painful wind since she was born.
It is normally a build up to emptying her bowels once a day if we are lucky. During the build up she has bouts of unbelievable pain and the wind from the bottom is frequent. She seems to experience the pain prior to emptying her bowels. It's a build up that can last for a couple of hours and does not subside until she goes. Then the whole process starts again. Her stools are not solid.
Baby Help Line Response:
Hi Kellie!
If you're daughter is formula fed, have you tried changing to another type or brand of formula. Some babies really benefit from soy based or hydrosalyte formula, to help them either avoid milk protein or at least give them a kind that is much more easily digested. Some babies even get a lot better by changing to another, regular brand.
If breastfed, your diet could be a reason for her painful wind. Excluding lactose completely, a well as caffeine, and gassy foods might help. The general recommendation is though to consult a doctor before starting to change your own diet.
I hope this helps!
