What I did with my son, and it worked wonderfully, was I brought his 'big boy bed' into the house, and made a big deal with him about it being a 'big boy bed' to get him excited. The first couple days, he didn't want to use it, so he stayed in the crib. The next day, he decided he would lay there at bedtime. I praised him and called him a big boy. After that, he started going right to bed in the big bed. Just use positive reinforcement, and treat it as a reward. Don't punish if your little one gets uncomfortable or isn't ready. They'll tell you when they're ready.
