Go see a doctor!
by: Baby Help Line!

Hi!

I think you should go to a doctor to have the rash examined. Sometimes for example dry eczema can become really bad and look the way you describe. Using moisterizers and sometimes a mild cortsone ointment will do the trick. But you'll have to talk to a doctor first.

It could of course also be related to some allergy. So again, visit a doctor!

Good luck!

Allergies
by: NannyNurse

Yes if he is 6 months old perhaps you have begun to give him some solid foods? Fruits? You should certainly take him to see the doctor if this rash does not go away or if it returns.

Babies especially when they begin to have new foods can have "short-term" allergies. Even if your family does not have any history of allergies certain foods can trigger allergic responses. And often these allergies can last only a short time. By simply removing the correct food from your baby's diet you can clear up the rash very quickly. Then after some time (generally 2-3 months) you can reintroduce that food and it will quite likely no longer be an allergen.

Of course the first step is a visit to the doctor to rule out any other causes, and if it is an allergy the doctor can suggest which foods might be the cause.

Just be sure to bring along a list of anything new (since a few days before the rash appeared) that your baby has eaten, and also take note of any new baby wipes or diapers as these could be the cause as well.

A child I was looking after was having a similar rash at around 5 months old. We found out it was to the Mango/Shea Butter baby wipes we had bought. It cleared up right away when we changed those out for "baby fresh" wipes.

Good Luck and be sure to see your doctor.
