My 3 Week Old Is Fussy And Wont Sleep

by Roshondra
(Houston Texas)

My 3 week old is not sleeping unless we are holding her. She has a lot of mucus inside that I can't suck out. I can hear it in her chest she sneezes a lot and has frequent bowel movements. What's wrong with her? Is it her tummy and how can I get her to sleep again.

A cold?
by: Baby Help Line

Hi Roshondra,

Congratulations to your little baby!

Not wanting to sleep anywhere but in your arm and pooping often are completely normal newborn behavior.

Sneezing and having a lot of mucus are not. I suggest you take her to a doctor for a check up. Most likely it is just a cold, but since she in so young, I wouldn't take any chances. Don't give her any medicin or anything without consulting a doctor.

Good luck!

Could be Reflux
by: Katie

My daughter had reflux (GER) and it sounded like she had congestion in her chest - it turns out it was reflux. The doctor gave her some medicine, and she slept better once we added an wedge to her moses basket for an incline.

Either way, I would take her to the doctor. 3 weeks old is so young that you should not be ignoring symptoms.

Congratulations and good luck!!
