Is It Time To Give Birth Already?

(Cape Girardeau Mo)

I was really nervous about my second delivery due to first daughter's labor being painful, scary and long.

First I went to my doctor and was having low amnotic fluid, so my doctor informed me that it would be wise to consider inducing me at 39 weeks. He informed me that I would need to go to the hospital in the morning to get induced with pitocin. OH CRAP!!!!! is what I was thinking.

With my first daughter I had to have cervix ripened and Pitocin and I could remember what this pain was like, it felt like someone was taking a jack hammer trying to crack open my uterus, not fun.

I was so nervous I called my husband crying and telling him I was going to be induced the next day. That day I spent some special time with my three year old, knowing that when the baby came her little world would be turned upside down. I did not sleep a wink that night.

We had an early start that morning. I got to the hospital around 5am and was finally hooked up to the horrible pitocin by 7:30. Immediately when I began to feel the contractions, I was able to get up and walk around which helped a lot.

By 10:30 the nurse checked me and informed me that she would go ahead and break my water. The nurse informed me that I was 4 cen dialated and 90% effaced and that it would be awhile. I informed her that I wanted the epidural. Within 5 minutes anthestiologist came and completed my epidural.

I was having problems with feeling numb on right side but not on left. She gave me more and flipped me from side to side. Finally I was getting comfortable.

My mother and father came in to see me and my husband. I started feeling uncomfortable on the left side again. So the nurse decided to have the anthestigologist come in and give me some more medication or redo epidural. She came in and had to redo my epidural. I finally was comfortable.

The nurse informed me that she needed to check to see if I had dilated more since I was having pain. She checked me and informed me that I was complete. I looked at her and stated: It is already time. She ran out and had to get the delivery stuff ready and call the doctor.

I waited for the doctor for 30 minutes to make it across town, but I was relaxed and not in pain. I was joking with the nurse. She looked flustered and keep asking me if I felt like I needed to push. I was totally comfortable and have been in more pain with menstrual cramps.

Doctor finally came in and within one push I had my 6 pound 10 ounce daughter. Doctor laughed and informed my husband that he could have done this at home.

All in all the total hours I was in labor with pictocin 5 hours. Doctor informed me that this was one of the fastest induced labors that he had seen. Informed me that if I have any other children and believe I am in labor that it is important for me to get to the hospital ASAP.
