Me with hair

Me with hair

I had a baby 6 months ago and for about 3 month I've been losing my hair not in patches but all over. It's really thinning out. I'm so scared, I've tried everything from changing my diet and taking multivitamins.

I'm NOT breastfeeding; I couldn't =( and I'm not stressed. I've been doing everything, I've tried every hair wash known and tried not washing it as often too.

Plz plz plz someone tell me why is this. Is it because of having a baby??? And how do i get it back? =( thanks sammi xXx

(and as you can see in my pic i HAD a lot of hair and its going )

Normal!
by: Paula (Baby Help Line)

Hi Sammi,

Relax; your hair loss is perfectly normal and you will not go bald. And whatever you do will not change the process, so you can stop buying expensive shampoos. What is going on is due to hormones. During pregnancy, your estrogen levels are very high, which makes you loose less hair than the usual 100-125 hairs per day. A lot of women have thicker, more beautiful hair (and skin!) during pregnancy than ever before. Well about 12 weeks after giving birth, hormones are back to normal, and the shedding of hair not only goes back to normal, but all the hairs that would normally have shed many months ago start falling out. Post pregnancy, some women loose as much as 500 hairs per day and it is completely normal.

Again, there isn't much you can do to stop this process (other than getting pregnant again :-) )
Some women find it less stressful to cut the hair shorter during this period.

By your baby's first birthday, the hairloss should be back to normal.

There are a lot of things going on with the body post partum. To learn more about your post pregnancy body, read this article.

Hair Loss
by: Anonymous

My boss told me that she lost a lot of hair about 6 months after having her kids, so I kind of knew to expect this...

I started losing my hair about 3 months or so after having my daughter. Now she's about 4-1/2 months, but I plan to cut my hair short and donate it to Locks of Love.

Since I had a heads up on this issue I grew my hair out on purpose...on top of it not being fun seeing all that hair come out when you shower/brush your hair...at least you can feel good knowing that all that hair that would fall out will go to a good cause. Just an idea for you ladies!
