God Watching Out For Our Baby

by Debbie

My daughter is three months old now, but I will never forget when she was just a newborn in the hospital. I found out on the first day she was born how quickly you can go from being the happiest person on earth, to almost losing your child.

On the first day after she was born (by c-section), our nurse Lisa came in the room and chatted with us while she gave Gabby a quick checkup. She casually picked her up and was cooing to her, when suddenly the nurse tucked our baby under her arm and started to suction her furiously.

My husband and I just looked on, unsure of what was happening. I knew that something was wrong, because there was no crying coming from our baby while this was happening. Finally, she let out a lusty cry and the nurse, looking exhausted, placed her back in the bassinet. She looked wearily at us.

It turns out that, while she was holding Gabby, she choked and stopped breathing. The nurse started to suction her furiously, and was about to call a code when she started to cry. "I have never had that happen before", she said, but we were grateful that she was in the room when this happened, or else our lovely daughter might not be with us now!

Scary!
by: Paula

Hi Debbie!

That must have been such a scary moment. Wonderful to hear that all went well. Actually, we had a similar situation with youngest son. He was only 1 hour old when our nurse came to our room to chat. Our baby was in dad's arms and suddenly went blue.

The nurse ran off with him, but things improved quite quickly.

So I can easily imagine how you were feeling!

Congratulations to your daughter!
