Funniest Baby Moment

by Catherine
(USA)

Our funniest baby moment with our first daughter happened shortly after she started walking when she was nine months old.

She was in love with flowers - any kind, any color. She loved to smell them and we would often stop and pick wildflowers for her on our way home from work.

My older sister had recently gotten married and I had dried the bouquet as a memento of the occasion. My daughter, the monkey that she was, kept trying to climb up and reach it to smell the flowers.

On this particular morning, I was making breakfast and she was quietly playing with her toys. I suddenly had a premonition that things were too quiet and was just going to look for her when she let out a shrill shriek.

I ran into our living room and sure enough, she had managed to reach the flowers and was sitting on the floor with the bouquet in her lap, panting and shaking. Perplexed, I checked her over for cuts or scrapes, anything to explain her behavior.

She then raised her little face to me and I realized that her nose didn't look quite right. I titled her head to the light and realized at once the source of her discomfort - she had plucked a tiny seed bud from the flowers and jammed it up her nose!

Wanting to avoid a first trip to the emergency room before the age of 1, I snatched a tiny pair of travel tweezers and said a quick prayer - hoping for the best.

I laid her down on the floor and much to my surprise, she protested not at all. She wanted it out nearly as badly as I! In a few seconds, I was able to pluck the offending bud from her nose. However, this didn't ease her discomfort - she was still rubbing at her nose. I then took a closer look and found yet another seed - and another - and another - and another!

In the space of a few seconds, she had stuffed 5 seeds into her nose! I was so thankful to have removed them all myself without resorting to an emergency room visit. At 5 years old, she still loves flowers but has never put another object near her nose!
