Formula Fed 6 Month Old Baby Will Not Eat

My 6 month old baby boy will only take about an ounce of formula every few hours and over the last 2 days I have managed to get him to take a 6 ounce bottle. We feed him stage 2 baby food, but he will only take about 1/4 of the jar a day, sometimes if we're lucky he'll take half the jar for the whole day. Is this normal?

Concerned Mom and Dad

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi Mom and Dad!

Actually, any amount of foods that keep your baby happy and gaining weight is likely to be enough for him.

Babies' appetite can vary a lot between individuals as well as between days. If you're worried, check his weight development at his health care provider. If everything seems normal, then stop worrying!

If he is not gaining weight as he should and he doesn't want to eat more food and formula, you can add a little bit of oil to his foods, maybe a tea spoon per feeding. (But check his weight curve first and discuss it with his doctor!)

If he is healthy and happy, he is very likely to be just fine!
