Eczema and Sleep

by Grace
(Santa Clara, CA)

My baby has eczema. Using the prescription cream, aquaphor and Cerave cream, the redness on her skin is usually under control, but the skin is still itchy nonetheless.

The doctor said I could give her Benadryl to help her sleep, but it doesn't always help and I also don't want to give her drugs every day to help her sleep. She used to be swaddled and that helps but lately she refused to be swaddled anymore.

Now the problem is she only sleeps when being held at night, the moment I put her down in her crib, she will wave her arms and start scratching her face. So in the past few nights, I held her in my arms and we slept on the couch. Any advise to help with her sleeping problem?

An idea
by: Baby Help Line

Hi!

What comes to my mind to help your daugher is cotton mittens; you know the type that some parents put on their newborn babies' hands to prevent them from scratching themselves.

Amazon sells them at only a couple of dollars.
Check out the no-scratch mittens here.

(If you decide to buy them, it may be a good idea to pamper yourself with a book or two (or something else from Amazon) so that delivery charges won't be higher than the actual price of the mittens. Just an idea... ;-)

Good luck!

therapeutic bedding
by: Anonymous

Hi there, I work for a company in the UK called Espere Healthcare who have just launched DermaTherpay therapeutic bedding for children and adults suffering from sensitive skin, especially eczema and dermatitis.

It’s unique fibre structure prevents loose fibres sticking out and irritating delicate or broken skin and it can also help you to keep cool whilst being as soft to touch as the highest percentile Egyptian cotton sheets!

Take a look at their site, www.dermatherapybedding.co.uk for more information...

Baby Eczema
by: Caitmin

Often children's skincare products can contain unnecessary ingredients such as colors or fragrance. But also look out for harsh preservatives, like parabens, which can trigger an eczema flare-up.

I found a really useful site that lets you compare the ingredients of several leading brands, its from a company called exederm

They make ultra hypoallergenic skin care products for kids with eczema or dermatitis

Check out the cream here.

What A SHAME!
by: Stacey Henry

I have often read where lack of sleep often hinders progress in winning against eczema. I have heard of the wet wrap therapy for children. This seems to work well for babies.
