Diaper Rash in 2 Year Old

by Anonymous

How quickly can diaper rash develop in a two year old? In less than 6 hours?

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi!

Sure! While diaper rash is the most common in younger children, diaper rash can develop any time a baby or toddler wears a diaper. If he sits a little bit too long in a wet or stoal-soaked diaper, a rash can develop. And fast!

It can also develop due to allergy, so if you recently change to a new diaper brand, that could be the reason for the rash.

Diarrhea and friction are two other common reasaons for diaper rash.

As your child is two years old, you've probably treated diaper rash many times before. Remember to put on some appropriate ointment, for example white zinc oxide, air out a lot and change diapers frequently.

If you see no improvement in 72 hours, contact your pediatrician. Some times the baby gets a yeast diaper rash that needs a special anti-yeast cream to disappear.

Good luck!
