Daughter Passing Out

At random my daughter will cry with no sound then go to passing out with her body stiffening? Doctor said to keep a small hand towel in a bowl of water in the refrigerator. Will these spells cause any brain or nerve damage?

Daughter Passing Out

I believe she is crying and holding her breath. That is why she is not making any sound when she cries. After she holds her breath for so long she passes out. Many children do this and it won't cause brain damage. As soon as she passes out she is not holding her breath anymore and she should be fine. If you notice any jerking of her body or her eyes rolling in the back of her head then you need to have her checked by your pediatrician again because it may be neurological. I believe she will be fine most kids grow out of holding their breath. Hope you have a great day. LIZ
