by Tara
(Miami,Fl)

My daughter is 7 weeks old & hasn't had a bowel movement in 3 days. I tried water, prune juice & gas drops & nothing seems to work. What should I do?

Breast or Bottle?
by: Baby Help Line

Hi Tara!

Is your baby breastfed or formula fed?

If breastfed, this is completely normal, but if she is eating formla she might be constipated (although it is now necessarily so).

Does she show any signs of constipation? If not, just wait. If she does, continue do what you've already done. You can also give her a glycerine suppository designed for infants. Ask for directions at the pharmacy.

But if your girl is not pain, simply wait!

Good luck!

Good Remedy
by: Anonymous

Try corn syrup (3 teaspoons) in a little warm water give that to her and wait about 2 hours. That should soften up her stools. Corn syrup contains fructose which is a natural laxative. Try this out and be sure to give it a little time to work, don't feed your child the whole bottle of corn syrup. One "dose" of this will be more than enough.
Good Luck
