Constipation in 6 Weeks Old
by Sheryl Dunning
My baby boy is 6 weeks old. He hasn't had a poo since Wednesday, which means that it has been 4 days since he passed motion.

But whether to worry or not depends on several things. First of all, is he breastfed or bottle-fed? If he is breastfed, it can be his 6 weeks growth spurt that simply makes him digest everything he eats. Does he seem unusually hungry? At around 1 -2 months old, many breastfed babies start pooping less often, which is normal and no reason to start providing juices or other ways to make them poop. Exclusively breastfed babies do not get constipated at all, unless possibly if they are allergic to something in mom's diet, which is unusual. Formula-fed babies also begin pooping less frequently at around 1-2 months of age. However, these babies should be pooping at least once every 2 or 3 days, since formula produces more waste than breast milk. So if your baby is formula-fed, he might be a little bit constipated. Is your boy in pain? If not, you might just want to wait for a while, whether or not he is breastfed. In case you baby is really showing signs of constipation, there are several additional remedies you can use, such as prune juice.
