Constipation, 2 Month Old

by Brittany
(al)

What can i do to help my little girl poo? It breaks my heart to see her strain and in pain! The dr. tells me that it's ok if she doesn't poop everyday. But if she needs to go she needs to go. It's just to hard to come out. Do they make stool softeners for infants?

Baby Help Line Response:

Hi Brittany!

Sure it is no harm if a baby doesn't poop every day... But if the stools are hard and she is in pain, I wouldn't think that it is ok! Or at least I would definately try to help my baby.

There are a number of things you can do to help her, including giving her a little bit of prune juice, make sure you don't add too much power when making the formula and give her some water in between meals.

I hope this helps!

Be careful to not give her much water. It can cause an off balance of her electrolytes and cause her to have seizures. I live in Florida and asked my pedi if I could give my daughter water since it can be very hot and that is what she told me.
