Constipated 4 Week Old

My 4 week old baby Harry hasn't had his bowels open in 4 days and seems quite distressed, is this normal? As he usually poos 4 or more times a day and he suffers from alot of wind aswell! I breastfeed so I can't see what's causing this. Do I need to take him to the doctors?

Hi Hollie!

If your son is 100% breastfed, just wait. It is quite early to have such a long period witout pooping even for a breastfed newborn, but it most likely is due to some combination of a growth period and maybe slightly immature intestines.

Try doing some baby massage to help him. (Tummy massage carried out the right way can be quite effective.)

If he doesn't poop in a few more days or if he really seems to be in pain, discuss it with his doctor.
