Combining Solids With Breastmilk
by Sarah
I started my 6 month old on solids but am confused about whether I should cut down on a milk feed and replace it with a solid food feed. My baby usually wants exclusive breastfeed every 3hrs. She is still wanting this so all I am doing for last 3 wks is giving her solids inbetween the feeds. Is this too much? When can I stop a breastfeed and replace it with solids? She does not seem to be full with solids and she eats quite a lot! Baby Help Line: How To Introduce Solid Foods For Fully Breastfed BabyHow great that your daughter is accepting and enjoying her solids - that can't be said about all 6 months olds. In the beginning it is completely natural that your baby continues to demand breastfeeding as usual, since that really is the primary source of nutrition. If you want to limit the amount of feedings, you can try to top up your daughter with breastfeeding after every solid food meal. That way she will get really full and hopefully will manage until next meal. But again, at 6 months old, and a beginner in solids, it is completely normal to snack (breastfeed) between meals. You can have a look at this baby feeding schedule too, I used it for my babies in the beginning and it worked well. Hope this helps, Paula Find answers and comments below.
