Color Of Poop

by c
(Pasadena)

My 6 month old babies poop went from green to pasty light yellow. She's primarily bottle fed and has recently been given Earth's Best Oatmeal.

She's been on that for 3 days until she got the yellow poop.

Before that she was on rice cereal and her poop was green, as it has been since day one.

I have no idea if the pale yellow poo is normal or not because the change was so drastic and happened over night.

Normal poop, probably
by: Baby Help Line

Hi,

Actually, in formula-fed babies, almost all colors are considered normal as long as there is no blood in the poop. The stools can be yellow, green or even tan or brown and still be completely normal.

What you just noticed; an instant change in the color when introducing new foods, is also normal. It can certainly make any parent worried, but there really is no need to do that unless your baby also becomes very fussy, constipated, gassy or get diarrhea at the same time.

One thing that comes to my mind; have you checked the iron content in the formula and rice ceral as compared to the Oatmeal?

For healthy, formula fed babies, the iron in the formula is often believed to be causing the green color. If the Oatmeal has a lower iron content, that could be the reason for the now yellow poop.

In any case, if your daughter seems healthy, the color is not likely to be a problem.

Hope this helps,

Paula

NAN -> green stool
by: shandy

my baby's stool changed suddenly from yellow to green when i switch to NAN. I switched again but the stool never changed back to yellow. Green stools are fine but definitely not so good as i read somewhere it meant indigestion. But baby's growing, tho i noted her development stages are not what i desired. My bro-in-law's nephew 2 weeks older than her seem faster and better. he's totally breast fed. But of course, he's a boy and mine's a girl. difficult to compare. plus every baby is different.
