Baby Poll: Your Baby's First Steps?

Do you remember when your baby took his very first steps? It is a magical moment for sure! The baby's first steps often come months before the baby actually starts walking and choose to walk instead of crawling. The poll below is about your baby's first few steps. If you want to know when other babies started walking for real, you'll find that poll here.

A lot of babies take their first steps at around 9 to 12 months old (often quite close to their first birthday), while it will take a few more months before they really walk.

Your baby starts the journey towards his or her first steps long before actually taking them. Here is what the development can be like:

  • At around 5 months old, a baby will bounce up and down if you hold him upright in you lap. Great fun and also great for developing the leg muscles.
  • At around the age of 8 months, many babies will try to pull themselves up to standing while holding onto the coach or some other furniture.
  • After practising this standing position for a few weeks, your baby will start cruising around while holding onto the furniture.
  • Then at around 10 months maybe, your baby might let go of the furniture and stand without support for a little while. He may also learn how to bend his knees to sit or squat.
  • At 11 months, your baby may be taking his first steps.
  • Walking comfortable usually come 2-4 months later.

If your baby is walking earlier or later than this, don't worry, these are just averages!
