by Lilly
(texas)

My son is on antibiotics for ear infection and throat infection and he has not had a wet diaper in over maybe 12 13 hours and I'm concerned and he has had maybe 6-8 diarrhea diapers and as soon as I put one of the medicine in his mouth he throws up everything he has drank. He is 5 months.

Hi Lilly,

Poor boy! I really think you should call his doctor and discuss the situation. Both throwing up the medicine and becoming dehydrated are problems.

Maybe his doctor can suggest another medicine that tastes differently?

Another option is (if don't already) is to give it to him through a medicine syringe so that he doesn't get everything in his mouth at the same time. For some babies, that helps.

In addition, offer him liquid; breast milk, formula or water very often. Even if he just drinks a tea spoon, it is a lot better than nothing.

But above all, talk to his doctor to get help.

Hope your little boy in better soon,

Paula
