Baby Passing Urine Every 10 Minutes - UTI?

by Manoj
(Dubai)

My one year old baby has been passing urine within 10 minutes 3 times in a row. Why is this happening? Can it be a urinary tract infection?

The baby is sometimes also touching urine pass place (vagina). Could this be related. Please give answer asap.

Diaper rash or UTI
by: Baby Help Line

Hi Manoj!

What you describe could be either be a simple diaper rash or signs of a urinary tract infection. If your daughter is not at all red around the vagina, but continues to be uncomfortable and pass urine often, I think you should take her to a doctor for a check up. In the mean time offer her plenty of water (or some other non-sugary liquid) to drink. Cranberry juice can be effective are there is some bacteria involved. Just don't give her too much, since she is so young. You don't want to cause tummy pain.

Also check if she has a low-grade fever; another sign of UTI in babies.

Hope this helps!

Check for UTI
by: Paula (Baby Help Line)

Hi,

With a child as "old" as 7 years, I would definitely have her urine checked for bacteria when she is peeing that often. Is she complaining about pain at all, while peeing or even just stomach pain?

You can also take a look at the urine and see if it is cloudy or has a dark color.

Make your daughter pee in a small cup and check the color as well as if it has a strong smell.

In any case, since untreated urinary tract infections may lead to kidney infections, go have your girl examined.

Hope this helps,

Paula
