Baby Never Sits Still To Eat

Since my 10 months old baby learned to stand and walk he doesn't like to stay in his high chair when I'm feeding him, it is so difficult for me to keep him to stay while feeding. What should I do?

Tips To Make Busy Baby Eat

You know, right when you thought things were getting easier when the baby is approaching his first birthday, things in some ways get harder.

Trying to force a baby or young toddler to sit still for longer periods is almost impossible. I guess they are so overwhelmed by their new abilities that they just have to practice them around the clock.

Your baby is likely to need distraction to want to stay in his chair. Have you tried serving finger foods?

You could also consider him letting him try to feed himself a little bit with another spoon. You'll need a big bib, but he might enjoy it enough to sit still for a while.

Also consider buying a high chair with no support for the feet; that way it is harder for the baby to stand up. IKEA has cheap and good ones for example if you can find one of their stores.

Finally, this is a period for many healthy snacks! Give your baby a piece of banana or similar to chew on while running around. Just make sure you only give foods that the baby can't choke on. For baby foods to avoid during the first year, click here.

In my experience, trying to force a baby or toddler to sit is hopeless and only leads to stressful meals. Not much fun! (Find more ideas on how to avoid power struggles at meal time here.

Good luck with your lively boy!

eating and running

sorry but i think eating and walkin about is a good idea am sure if they got food in ther hand then they would have to stop to eat n then start running. idealy children dont alwayz run about. even if banana does get stuck then its very slippery it will slip down da throat unless they take a big mouthful while running. its a great way of getting ur child 2 hav ther five fruits a day while playing. so ther is a disadvantage n advantage in this topic depends if the parent is confident enough, but they shud start by giving 1st tym if they think it isnt safe then it isnt safe...
