Baby Goes Limb After Feeding

by Noelle
(Phoenix AZ)

Last night I was feeding my 5 1/2 mth old rice cereal as well as formula. He is teething and was a bit "Crabby" and wanted out of his chair quickly after eating all of his food. He was crying and getting himself all worked up.

I was holding him with his back against me(face was forward) and walking around. He then felt kind of limp and I hit him on his back a couple of times and within seconds he was fine.

This seemed to happen one other time after eating. I kind of think he falls into what I call The "food coma" and falls asleep but I can not be sure. Should I be worried?

It has never occurred without eating and just when I start to get nervous (and extremely scared) he responds.

Hi Noelle,

I think you should get your little boy checked out. I can't even guess what could be causing this so you need to get advice from your doctor.

Babies can react in funny ways particularly when they are tired - my son when he was about 11 months would keep going and going and then just crash, fall asleep. Even splat down on the pavement!

But for peace of mind you need to make sure there is nothing else going on.

All the best with your lovely little boy,
Annie Desantis
