Baby Diarrhea Or What

My 3 month old normally poops 1 time daily, maximum 2. Today she pooped 4 times, however, the stools seem fine, but smaller quantity than normal. Does that mean my baby has diarrhea?

If yes what can i do?

No need to worry too much

Hi Odette!

If the poop is normal I wouldn't call it diarrhea, but something is obviously up. Have you made any changes at all to her diet? Or is there any chance that she could be teething? (You can find teething symptoms here.) Some babies drool so much when they are teething that the salivia actually affects their pooping pattern.

If everything else is as usual and your daughter doesn't seem ill at all, just wait and see what happens. Babies can get new bowel movement habits without anything being wrong.

When a baby does have diarrhea, there is usually quite big change in the number of bowel movements, combined with the stools being looser and more watery. Since your baby's stools are still the same, she probably does not have diarrhea.

regarding poo

Not pooping for breastfed 3 month old

Hi,

Not pooping for a few days when 3 months old and breastfed is completely normal. No need to worry at all. At around 3 months any babies can go up to a week or more without bowel movements. This will change once the baby is introduced to solid foods in a couple og months. So just enjoy this time.
