Baby Constipation Since Five Days

by Bing
(London)

My baby girl is on fomula since she's two weeks. She normally poos every 2-3 days, and the poo wasn't dry.

I started introducing solid to her recently. Last poo she had was on last Sun, and it was a bit dry. But she hasn't pooed since, and I tried to hold her over the loo to help her with no sucess.

I've been giving her water in between meals, and a little bit banana and yogurt.

It has been 5 days, I'm worried it will only get harder for her. Does anybody have better idea for helping my little girl? Many thanks Bing

Some diet tips

Hi Bing!

It does seem as if your girl is constipated - very common when starting with solid foods.

Instead of giving your daughter banana and yogurt (which both actually make the oop harder), try giving her prune purée with every meal. You can also offer her pear juice and/or apricot purée.

Offering water is great.

If this doesn't help within a few days, try cutting down on the solid foods until she has pooped and then start slowly again.

Stay away completely from dairy products, banans, carrots and blueberries.

If she is very uncomfortable, you can get over-the-counter glycerin Suppositories specifically for babies.

Hope this helps,

/Paula
