Baby Khloe

My daughter has only pooped on her own 3 times since she was 2 weeks old.

I B/F for a very short 4 days and she pooped like a lot.

We have switched her formula 3 times now. Her dad is lactose intolerant and she is on soy now. I have to help her go when its been to long. Some times she does pass her gas fine other times I give her Mylicon(? Spelling) drops. We do switch up on helping her from prune juice to apple to pear and qtip method, kayro, and sometimes even baby Supp. All with doc approval. I have no clue what else to do...

Baby Can't Poop On Her Own - What To Do

What an adoreable little girl you have!

I am sorry to hear about her ongoing problems. Of course a 3.5 month old should be able to poop without help.

What type of formulas have your tried so far? Babies that are allergic to milk protein are also sensitive to soy protein, so soy forumla wouldn't help in such case.

Are you sure she is lactose intolerant? A lot of symtoms of lactose intolerance are very similar to those of milk allergy. Maybe that is at least something to discuss with your daughter's pediatrician. Her Dr. can run a series of tests to see if she is allergic to milk protein.

I also think you should take her to another pediatrician for a second opinion if your first one can't help you more.

In addition to asking the doctor for further advice and examination, you can try other formulas (for example hydrolysate ones that usually work well for babies allergic to both milk and soy protein) and provide your baby with some extra water.

For some babies, regular baby massage and warm baths may also help.

Make sure you browse all other baby poop questions and answers here at Easy Baby Life, since a lot of parents have similar experiences.

Warm wishes,

Paula

The formula...
by: Paula (Baby Help Line)

Hi again Jhennifer,

How good that you are seeking a second opinion.

Just one thing regarding the formula types you mention - they are all based on either milk or soy protein. If you haven't tried a hydrolysate formula, at least discuss that option with your Doctor. In those forumlas, the proteins have been broken down to such small pieces that even kids with milk or soy protein allergy can usually digest them without a problem - and of course they are gentle for other babies too. Hydrolysate formulas are generally more expensive, but if prescribed by a doctor, they are often covered by insurance.

Just in case you didn't know.

Baby dont go
by: jhenniffer

I am going to bring that up on her next visit next week. I dont like giving her stuff to help her go. I want her to go on her own and not hurt when she does. Thank you so so so much for that info..
